Hassaan - is there not some provision for those who cannot fast due to medical

issues? is EVERYONE required to do the full fast - even those who are pregnant

or with diabetes? I certainly believe that the argument could be made that

achalasia would fall into that same category.

group who keep on posting and helping others - thank you very much. This

question is regarding 'fasting' - as some of you might be aware muslims observe

the month of ramadan i.e. 30 days fasting from around 4:15 am to 7:00 pm. How do

your relate the 15 hrs (approx) fasting with the spasms?

My spasms are generally random in nature since it appears that they can happen

at any time. In the past I did see a connection between being in a stressful

situation and the commencement of the spasms, but that no longer seems to be an

issue (not due to any less stress in my life, just handling it better).

I still perceive a direct connection though between going longer than usual

periods of not eating/drinking and experiencing spasms. No question about it.

Should that happen, an immediate drink (preferably carbonated in my case), is

the best solution to stopping spasms before it has a chance to ramp up and

becoming unbearable.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Yes those who are not well and can not fast - for whatever

reason - are allowed to skip. But I just wanted to confirm if 14-15 hrs fasting

could result into spasms? My brother who has achalasia had experienced spasms

today so I was trying to relate it with fasting.

Thanks

Hassaan

Does anyone have a situation where food is stuck and they feel they may need an

endoscopy to get it out. Then we have to wait it out.

I get spasms if I go too long without eating. The last time I tried to fast, I

had a very long, horrible episode of spasms lasting over 24 hours. I have been

way too chicken to try fasting again! Fasting is a no no if you have spasms, in

my opinion.
