Guest guest
Ok, I am on day 7 and have been doing quite well. I have been able to eat mashed potatoes, rice, macaroni. Minor discomfort from all the affects of post-surgery but only 1 E spasm that whole time. Has anyone had problems with coughing and it being hard to breathe at night while trying to sleep? This would happen to me before surgery if there was stuff in my E (at least I think that is why??) like I am aspirating. Right now it is about 5 am. I woke up because I couldn't breathe that well, trying to cough the phlegm up and out. Starting to get worried.
Guest guest
i had my Myotomy last Thursday. this is wednesday am. i have not been able to breathe DEEPLY and freely without feeling sort of " cough-ey " but i am good. my tiny incesions are puffed up but i know they are healing. The only strange thing i have had is a almost migrane. it started the day of the surgery and i have had it almost the whole week. i seemed to have slept it mostly off last night but it is still there, sosort of like under a blanket , in my head.. i am drinking and eating. my Dr has me on soft food for 3 weeks, for reasons specific to my surgery.i am very pleased with my progress. i am still retaining fluid on my ankles --which is very unusual for me. BUT i figuire it will go away. i am very happy. I hope that you continue to improve!! kim > > Ok, I am on day 7 and have been doing quite well. Guest guest
I have not had any problems sleeping, but maybe you should elevate your pillows a bit if they aren't already? Hang in there! ________________________________ From: grahamsev2 <grahamsev@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2011 5:11 AM Subject: Coughing at night after surgery  Ok, I am on day 7 and have been doing quite well. Guest guest
If you are retaining water around your ankles your blood pressure could be high and that is what is causing your head to hurt. It is normal to have a hard time breathing after surgery. It will go away in a few weeks. Practice taking deep breaths and you might try not laying flat to sleep or sleep sitting up until your breathing improves. You will continue to get better. If you start filling ill call the doctor and let them know what is going on. Make sure you are not running fever. You will be back to new in no time. , Cullen's mom In a message dated 9/14/2011 5:48:40 A.M. Guest guest
I rarely get headaches, and I had them for weeks after my surgery. I assumed it had something to do with the pain meds I was on, but yeah. I Spent a lot of time lying around with an ice pack on my head. They went away completely, though. > > > i had my Myotomy last Thursday. this is wednesday am. i have not been able to breathe DEEPLY and freely without feeling sort of " cough-ey " but i am good. my tiny incesions are puffed up but i know they are healing. Guest guest
Glad you are doing so well, Kim. I'm sure you will continue to improve -- keep us posted. I too had some weird neck/head/shoulder pain. I've never had a migraine so I don't know if it was similar. It went away eventually. Guest guest
Hi Graham, I had a lot of phlegm post surgery and coughed at night a lot. I dont' think it was the same sort of aspiration problem as before surgery --- I think it was too much time lying down and therefore mucus collecting in my lungs. It went away when I forced myself to walk more, and regularly used that painful but necessary breathing tool (the lung capacity measuring thing I am sure they gave you). My husband became quite bossy about making me go for a decent walk every couple hours and use the breathing thing every hour or so and then my lungs cleared up. I think it is an unpleasant side effect of general anesthesia and resting a lot. Keep coughing -- you need to prevent pneumonia. Guest guest
Hi , My name is Caroll. I live in Michigan and I had my Heller Myotomy with Fundoplication on Aug. 22. Befrore my surgery, I remember having a lot of mucus. After the surgery, my doctor told me I had alot of inflammation. They had to clear that out before they started with the procedure. I experienced coughing months before my surgery. That was one of my symptoms along with chest pains and problems swallowing. But, I have experienced coughing after surgery during my stay in the hospital. I believe the lung device helped with that. Now, I no longer have the coughing problem, but I still have chest pains ocassionally and just started noticing a little mucus. Maybe, it's because I stopped using the Lung device. Not sure. Anyway, try using the Lung device, maybe it will help the coughing to dissipate. I think I'm going to continue using it. Hope this helps Caroll > > > > Ok, I am on day 7 and have been doing quite well. I have been able to eat mashed potatoes, rice, macaroni.
