Guest guest
When I initially found out about my Achalasia my GI doc sent a referral to the Cleveland Clinic. On my own research and by a recommendation through this forum I scheduled surgery with Dr. Holzman at Vanderbilt on August 17th. I just received a letter from my GI doctor letting me know that Dr. Rice at Cleveland Clinic would not do surgery unless I lost about 25 lbs as he says this improves the outcomes of surgical patients. My question is, why do some doctors require this and others do not? I am thinking I would rather have a better outcome and that I should lose the weight anyway. I am concerned as I am 40 years old and I want this to have the best result it can and be in the best health I can. I wonder if I should put it off for one more month and lose the weight first. any thoughts?
