Guest guest
There might be people who will answer your questions (I am tempted to also), but ultimately, Dr. Dempsey will probably be the best person to address your concerns (though I understand you need some answers now and you have to wait to speak to him).  I found him to be a very caring, compassionate person, unlike the typical profile of many surgeon's " bedside " matter.  He has performed this type of surgery many, many times, and I am confident that you should have excellent results. I would guess that the aerobics and swimming, when done at a level consistent with your recovery should be one of the best things you can do.   From: katief0811 <katief0811@...> Subject: just scheduled appointment! achalasia Date: Monday, August 1, 2011, 10:32 AM  so i just scheduled an appointment with Dr. Dempsey for the 11th, which sadly is on my sons birthday but i'm trying to get this surgery done. He apparently is only there on thursdays. I also made an appointment with Dr. Chojnacki on the 23rd just as a back-up. I really hope it goes well. Also, since the surgery, how long does it take for your body to really heal and get back to normal? When I start school at the end of August I will be in an aerobics and swimming class and i'm not sure if i should still keep them or if it will be damaging to my recovery. Guest guest
If you are meeting a surgeon on the 11th, you are unlikely to have an operation for another week or two. A week between an operation and aerobics or swim class sounds more than a bit risky. The doc will clarify, to be sure. Guest guest
Dr. Dempsey has alot of experience, I would not hesitate to go with him, he is very highly recommended!! I was out of work 2 weeks and could not lift anything over 10 pounds after that, other than that just take it easy and watch what you eat. Follow docs orders on clear liquid, liquid, then mushy foods, something easy to digest, don't want to undo the surgeons handiwork!! Guest guest
I hit 4 weeks tomorrow post myotomy and started returning to moderate exercise after 2 weeks and have been fully doing everything since about 3 1/2 weeks.(well, still trying not to lift my 40lb kids) but generally doing yoga, biking, hiking, etc. Just one data point. Guest guest
Hi , I would think it will be best if you could take it easy for a while but if it is a must then just check with Dr. Dempsey, You can email or call him, he is very approachable. Guest guest
It probably depends a lot on your body, too, because no two people heal the same. I have NEVER been someone who heals well, and I have a pretty low tolerance for pain...such a girl. Wednesday will be 3 weeks since my surgery, and I'd still be too sore to swim or do other physical activities. I'm looking forward to getting back to jogging, but there's no way I'd feel good about doing it anytime soon. > > so i just scheduled an appointment with Dr. Dempsey for the 11th, which sadly is on my sons birthday but i'm trying to get this surgery done.
