Hello I am sorry that you had that episode.  I know there some surgeons

have prescribed some meds to help with spasms.  I have not taken any over the

years but I found things to help with mine.  I would eat icecream and would

have to sit on my recliner untill the spasms would stop.  I know that does not

work for others like drinking soda.  This disease effects each of us

differently and it is progressive.  Finding what works for you is a hit or miss

type of thing.

I am sorry I cannot give you a more dirrect answer.

It has been a long time since I posted but thank goodness all of you are still

here! I had a Heller Myotomy in July of 2008 and I am doing great swallowing

wise. But I still have spasms from time to time. Last monday my son had to take

me to the emergency room because the pain was so severe and the doctor did not

know what to do with me! After they gave me a shot of Morphine and the spasms

started to calm down as did I, he asked me what he should prescribe?

thoes of you with spasms what are you prescribed that works. My feeling is that

the Doctors even the GI docs just don't get how painful these can be and I need

to tell them what works. Any advise would be helpful.

Hi , I too had an Myotomy in 2009 that was successful. However my spasms

are awful. Last night I went to bed

at 11 pm and had painful spasms until 6 am. Then got about an hour sleep when

they started all over again. Sometimes

room temperature water helps. But I am at a loss as to what to do, I would love

some advice or suggestions as to what

to do or if there are some meds available to help.

I have been in this group since just after my Hellers Myotomy and Dors

Fundoplication in May 2009 at Cedars Sinai in LA. Wow, have I learned a lot.

Thank you all for being there.

I am still plagued with food taking forever to go down and humongous

amounts of foam that prevents food from going down. I swallow a lot of air that

is hard to burp up.

I was just going through the on line archives in our group and found a lot

of early entries (2001-2) praising L Argenine to reduce the foam. What is

the latest on this? Are there drawbacks? Is it worth trying?

Does anyone know about Sea buckthorn? It is very popular now and I have

found references to it's ability to heal the esophagus.

I can feel when I am stressed and I know a spasm is around the corner. So,

I went to the health food store and picked up some Magnesium. I only take

one when things are crazy and I feel stressed. Magnesium is a natural

muscle relaxant (also a natural laxative) so I don't take more than one 200

mg pill at a time. Also, it relaxes the LES and can allow for acid reflux

(another reason to just take one).

So far it has worked well for me.

- I had a myotomy in Sept of 04 and still sometimes get really bad NCCP's.  I

can usually stop them by chugging cold water - the colder the better - and as

much of it as I can stand.  If that doesn't work, I have a prescription for

Levsin (Ithink the generic is Hyoscamine).  It is a smooth muscle relaxer that

is taken sublingually.  I never go anywhere without some of the pills in a

container on my keychain.  Fortunately, the NCCP's don't get that far very

often.  I just refilled the prescription (20 pills) because the pills I still

had were over a year old.  They sometimes take a few minutes to work, but they

haven't failed me yet!

,

I use the following prescriptions:

120 mg of Verapamil at night. (It's supposed to be for blood pressure, but I use

it for it's side effect of relaxing the smooth muscles.)

10 mg of epam (When needed). Again for it's side effect of relaxing the

smooth muscle.

When the spasms are bad, like make you fall to your knees bad, I break down and

take vicodin 500mg.

I've taken Levbid and Nitroquick in the past but the results didn't last.
