Sorry this reply is so delayed. I am trying to catch up on old messages.

We are all different so what is true for one is not for another. Some

will progress faster and more than others. Statistically achalasia is a

progressive disease. The longer a person has it the more damage to

nerves there is likely to be. The more damage to nerves there is the

more likely the esophagus will be dilated and sigmoid. Those statements

are generalizations. There are no guarantees how your achalasia will

progress, fast, slow, much or little, with or without treatment.

I progressed very slowly over many years before I even told my doctor

about my problems and another six years before having the surgery but

others have progressed as much as I did in all those years in less than

one year.
