I have been taking a break from responding but I want to jump on this

one because confusion about it could be scary. Those that have followed

the posts here about spasms and NCCPs know that one of the things they

can feel like is a heart attack. There is something else that they can

mimic and that is an aortic dissection. If you do a search for " pain " or

" NCCP " and " dissection " you are going to get a lot of hits for aortic

dissection and not much else that seems to relate. Of course we all

recognize " dissection " in the context of cutting something open to

examine it, but dissection can also mean to split or tear apart.

Arterial dissection is tearing along the inside wall of an artery.

Aortic dissection is a type of arterial dissection. It can be life

threatening, therefor scary. I doubt your doctor is saying she thinks

aortic dissection is the problem. She may just be saying it sounds like

a " tearing " pain. Adhesions from surgery can also cause a " tearing "

pain. She may also just have been saying that whatever it is, it sounds

like, but only sounds like, aortic dissection. This is like saying the

description of a spasm sounds like a heart attack.

Just my guess.

I agree with Notan. If it was a true aortic dissection she would have been taken

to surgery right away. They dont mess around with that. Curious that she used

that as a reference though.

That is why it is very important to ask doctors to explain in a term that

everyone can understand. A lot of times I will tell the doctor, " I am not

understanding what you are trying to tell me " , and they will stop and will take

time to descibe and sometimes draw. " And also inside the examination room, our

doc will sign on the computer and show what it is like a normal and not normal.
