you are going to want to get with your school nurse and have them place

with a medical 504 designation - it's a federal law outlining his unique medical

needs and the school and faculty MUST follow it. You can get him permission to

carry a water bottle, tums (on his person, NOT with the nurse as it then takes

too long to get them) crackers, whatever you find works for him. Even though

this spasm is over, that's not to say (sadly) that he won't ever have them

again. You are going to have to strongly advocate for him, especially if he's at

a school where they are very firm about not eating in between classes and no

drinks and that kind of thing.

You may want to start that process soon as it may take some time to get all the

info you're going to need from his doctor and all that.

good luck

glad to hear he's enjoying eating!! WOOHOO

Hi ,

Thank you for your suggestion. I absolutely agree with you. We will be speaking

with the school nurse so she is aware of it.

Thanks,

Priti

have you spoken with your sons school yet and set up his medical 504

designation? although the doctor tells you that his spasms will subside and that

gaviscon may work - what too many of us here know is that, when discussing

spasms - there is never anyway to be sure what's going to happen.

Even if finds that the gaviscon works for him, most schools do not allow

medications of ANY kind to be carried around without doctors notes. The last

thing you want for him is to have a raging spasm and not have anything with him

to help. At the very least, you and need to speak with the school nurse -

he is not going to want to have to explain what's happening during a spasm.

Glad to hear he's recoving well.

The school nurse at my daughters school was such a great help. And she actually

had some knowledge of achalasia.
