I received my order a couple of weeks ago but also I did not get an email or

tracking number. When I called to find out about my order the lady was

kinda snippy about me checking on it. She said they would send it, I didn't

have to follow up.

But, I did get it so all was well.

My sister has one and it is good, but if someone wants one that is

strong, if not as strong, but also not so costly, there is the Osterizer

Beehive 500 watt. That has a bit less power than a 1380 watt (aprx, 2hp)

$400 vitamix but for $60 it does the job. The Beehive only has a toggle

switch for speed control. Up for very fast (locking) or down for (pulse)

fast, mid off. I don't need a bunch of speeds, the pulse works well

enough for speed control for me. I like simple things. It chops ice well

enough for me. If however I was going to use a lot of ice daily the

Vitamix may last longer but I could buy a few Behives for that price.

Both are good, the Beehive is not a Vitamix but it may be worth

considering if someone is interested in a simple blender to make

smoothies but not at the price of a Vitamix.

Hello Judy,What do you want to use your Vitamix for? If only for soups, ice creams, and smoothies, the 4500 would be ok, but it doesn't have a variable speed (just low and high). With the variable speed (which comes with a 5200) you can add texture into a soup after it is made (chop up things like cooked chicken and/or cooked veggies like green beans for example) and you can do this right in the soup! Here are all of the ways I use my Vitamix and many of these "ways" are with the slower, variable speeds that the 5200 model comes with…I MAKE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING IN MY VITAMIX MACHINE:Green Smoothies (my YouTube Video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2lePmw0XEQ & feature=relatedHot Soups (my YouTube Video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsFMiKefkZU & feature=relatedIce Creams (my YouTube Video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xoo0Pbt0Ads & feature=relatedFruit Smoothies - also known as Juices, but in a Vitamix they are thicker than "real" juice - (my YouTube Juice Video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHgQZTAfCnA & feature=relatedTrue Juices like Carrot Juice, Veggie Juice, and Wheat Grass Juice using the same technique as Rene uses in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGendHVlxroCold Green SoupsHot Green SoupsBlended Salads V-8 "like" JuicesTomato Sauces like Marinara and SpaghettiProcess Tomatoes for canningSalsa (see my website for recipe)Raw Applesauce (see my website for recipe)HummusPuddingsQuiches (chops the veggies and or meats and scrambles the eggs at the same time)Omelettes (chops the veggies and or meats and scrambles the eggs at the same time)Cole SlawHash BrownsChop Veggies for salad toppings or recipes like chili Salads like Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Egg Salad, Broccoli Salad, Carrot Salad, etc.MayonnaiseMarinadesHome Made Butter from raw creamHot Fruit SyrupsBatters: Pancake, Corn Bread, Cake, Brownie, Muffin, and Quick BreadsBread Dough from freshly ground grains - Whole Wheat and a non-gluten Rice BreadFlax Seeds can be put in a smoothie whole (not pre-ground where they immediately begin to go rancid) and they become liquified right in the drinkGround Flax Seeds when recipes call for them groundCracked Grains for things like cooked grain cerealsCorn Meal for corn bread, batters for frying fish, corn grits, and polentaNut Butters: Peanut, Almond, Cashew, Mixed Nut, Tahini, Almond/Peanut, etc.Coconut ButterFruit Roll Ups (used my dehydrator to dry them)Chips (used my dehydrator)Cashew Cream: http://community.vitamix.com/_-Vita-Mix-Cashew-Cream/video/876694/22442.htmlCold Compost from left over veggie scraps: http://www.vitamix.com/household/infocenter/summerfun/composting.aspOrganic Bug Spray from halapeno peppers (check out same link as above)Dog Food Gravy from blending cooked chicken carcasses with water! These are just things I've made (and I've probably forgotten some). Vitamix website has the comparative information between varioys machine. I just

purchased 5200 Deluxe model about two weeks. I like it,but it is probably more

machine for my purpose.

I think 4500 comes with Variable Speed(VS) or just fixed speed(or 2 Speeds?).

The 4500 VS is exactly the same machine as 5200 without the additional 64OZ and

32OZ containers. Pls talk to Vitamix consultant for more info.

I don't want to eat or drink what " Most people " do including some of my family

members! That is why I got a Vitamix and an Omega Juicer.

I'm not Judy but thanks for the list! There are stuff I did not know

that my favorite machine can do!

right in the soup!

Here are all of the ways I use my Vitamix and many of these

"ways" are with the slower, variable speeds that the 5200 model

comes with…

I MAKE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING IN MY VITAMIX MACHINE:

Green Smoothies (my YouTube Video)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2lePmw0XEQ & feature=related

Hot Soups (my YouTube Video)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsFMiKefkZU & feature=related

Ice Creams (my YouTube Video)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xoo0Pbt0Ads & feature=related

Fruit Smoothies - also known as Juices, but in a

Vitamix they are thicker than "real" juice - (my YouTube Juice

Video):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHgQZTAfCnA & feature=related

True Juices like Carrot Juice, Veggie Juice, and

Wheat Grass Juice using the same technique as Rene uses in

this video:

Cold Green Soups

Hot Green Soups

Blended Salads

V-8 "like" Juices

Tomato Sauces like Marinara and Spaghetti

Process Tomatoes for canning

Salsa (see my website for recipe)

Raw Applesauce (see my website for recipe)

Hummus

Puddings

Quiches (chops the veggies and or meats and

scrambles the eggs at the same time)

Omelettes (chops the veggies and or meats and

scrambles the eggs at the same time)

Cole Slaw

Hash Browns

Chop Veggies for salad toppings or recipes like

chili

Salads like Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Egg Salad,

Broccoli Salad, Carrot Salad, etc.

Mayonnaise

Marinades

Home Made Butter from raw cream

Hot Fruit Syrups

Batters:  Pancake, Corn Bread, Cake, Brownie,

Muffin, and Quick Breads

Bread Dough from freshly ground grains -

Whole Wheat and a non-gluten Rice Bread

Flax Seeds can be put in a smoothie whole (not

pre-ground where they immediately begin to go rancid) and they

become liquified right in the drink

Ground Flax Seeds when recipes call for them ground

Cracked Grains for things like cooked grain cereals

Corn Meal for corn bread, batters for frying fish,

corn grits, and polenta

Nut Butters:  Peanut, Almond, Cashew, Mixed Nut,

Tahini, Almond/Peanut, etc.

Coconut Butter

Fruit Roll Ups (used my dehydrator to dry them)

Chips (used my dehydrator)

Cashew Cream:  http://community.vitamix.com/_-Vita-Mix-Cashew-Cream/video/876694/22442.html

Cold Compost from left over veggie scraps:  http://www.vitamix.com/household/infocenter/summerfun/composting.asp

Organic Bug Spray from halapeno peppers (check out

same link as above)

Dog Food Gravy from blending cooked chicken

carcasses with water!

These are just things I've made (and I've probably

forgotten some).  You can also see more ways to use the

Vitamix (with video demonstrations) here:

Judy, I will add here one reason that a lot of people may say that about fruit and vegetable juices (an I will agree) is that when you just these juice exractors, you do drink the juice and unless you have a way to use it or incorporate it into something the very beneficial fiber is removed. Now one strong point with me (and Lea Ann ) can correct me if I am wrong, is that with the VM you actually consume the fiber with the juice which to me is great.

I am planning on getting a VM 5200 myself, and this group has been an invaluable tool for me in considering a purchase, as seeing how everyone uses theirs has been like having one myself.
