I bought my daugther a bed wedge pillow and did not like it becoz she says she

slids down and not as comfortable. Then I bought her another adjustable bed

wedge that you put under the mattress and she loves it. You can buy a single,

full , queen or kingsize and her roommates love the her bed now. When ever she

comes home, someone sleeps at her room becoz of the adjustable wedge. You can

decide how high or low you want it just like hosp beds and cost arount 129 to

$149 online.

There is another way to elevate the bed.  If  your spouse does not mind

sleeping this way.  My doctor, when first diagnosed in the late 70s told me to

put 8 " block under the headboard/legs of my bed.  That did the trick, until my

husband became tired of sliding down to the footboard or his feet hanging off

the bed.  My not weighing much (80s - 100 lbs.) did not have that problem.

After my myotomy I had to have a greater height and now our king size bed is

split in the middle.  The best investment we have ever made.  He keeps his

side lowered and I keep mine raised to where I need it and some nights I do not

have to raise it as much as others.  I have learned to tell the signs that

there might be problems if I do not go higher.  Plus I can also raise the foot

of the bed to alleviate the pressure on my lower back.

Thank you for all the suggestions.  Another idea, my husband found something to

raise the headboard of the bed, which is under $20 at Target, it is called bed

stand.  It is to raise the bed to store stuff underneath (probably made for

college kids dorms) and it worked to raise the bed headboard side perfectly.

Unfortunately my son's cough is still persistent. He does eat 3-4 hours before

bedtime.  Not sure...maybe cough medicine tonight will help.

Thanks,

Priti

Does this cough issues go away after surgery?  What is the easiest way to clean

the e?  I tell my son to eat early and then drink 2 glasses of water to make

sure everything is pushed down.

Thanks,

Priti

had been eating at 6pm. and we go to bed around ten thirty or 11.. i just cannot

eat any closer to bedtime than 4 PLUS hours.. try getting your son to clean

out his E. before bed. Ray told me about it, and it sure helps, i do it every

nite now. i still have to be careful too.. or coughing begins.. kim bailey

Hi Priti,

Is this cough from phlegm in the throat?  Or is this phlegm and food

particles.

I think with achalasia phlegm will always be somewhat of an issue.  Now that I

have had the surgery, there is no more choking at night or any type of regurg or

foam.  In my situation that is no longer a problem.  The surgery should open

things up so that it goes down and doesn't come back up.  I hope this is the

case for your son as well.

Best regards, Julee So. Calif.

Depends on how successful the surgery is. For me it was a night and day

difference.
