Hi,

We came back home after my son's surgery yesterday.  He is doing fine.

Thank you for your prayers.  I will write in details soon, hopefully tomorrow.

good luck tomorrow. Rest assured you have done your research and asked the

questions and made the best decision you can. Just be sure that your son doesn't

rush his diet too much - it's very exciting in the beginning to get food down

and he's going to want everything in sight!! I remember getting a phone call

from , after her son (who I think was 16 at the time) was about 2 weeks

post-op and had eaten a burger and fries at school and was suffering for it! She

wanted me to help him understand that a burger was a little too much, too soon -

you know those stubborn teenagers.

Keep it soft and mushy for a few weeks and tell him to eat small bites and chew

well - he'll be back to a full diet in no time and this will all seem like a bad

dream.

Did you ever tell us who is doing the surgery?

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow - please post when you can and let us know

he's OK.

thank for posting, I've been watching to see your post. I have a special place

in my heart for the teens with A - I used to be one!

Yes, I would avoid anything even citrus flavored, I would also avoid caffeine

and carbonation. When he moves on to full liquids, I would still keep it bland

and only have him take a few sips at a time. Cream soups work well or yogurt

drinks or milkshakes - his bowels may be a bit off in the beginning - that's

normal.

Even when he goes to mushy foods, I'd avoid too many spices or anything acidic -

keep it kind of soft and bland in the beginning - mashed potatoes, mac and

cheese, chicken or tuna salad, scambled eggs are good.

I hope he feels better soon and please keep us posted.
