Guest guest
Here's a dumb question for those who have had myotomies -- what was the " title " of your dr? I was going to call my husband's surgeon to ask how many myotomies he's done -- not that it matters now but I am curious -- & dug out the paperwork to get the name of the dr & he had two -- which I knew, I guess, but I was just wondering if that's normal. One was a general surgeon, the other was a GI dr. Are these dr's that everyone recommends -- Patti & Luketich -- do they do the surgeries by themselves?? > > the most important thing is to ask your doctor how many myos he's done - do not settle for the 'I've done plenty' answer - you want a real number - is it 10 a year, 100 a year, 5 or 6 a month? anything less than say 100 or so a year - GO FIND SOMEONE ELSE! Cleveland clinich - Dr. Rice - he's done over 300 myos and most people are very happy with their outcomes. I can also personally recommend Dr. Luketich in Pittsburgh - well worth the travel time. > Good luck, ask questions and glad you found us!! > > ~ in NC >
Guest guest
Thanks for the comments. My surgeon has done 100 myos and he does about 3 a month now. There are also 2 other surgeons at UVA that perform myos. He did say he had one perforation but it was repaired and the patient did well after. He also had one patient where the myo didn't really work and they had to come back for dilation. You mentioned Dr. Rice, he and maybe 2 other doctors come highly recommended by several people in this group. From initial research I've done, the Cleveland Clinic has come up several times as a top hospital for achalasia treatment and myos.
