Guest guest
Does your daughter have a medical 504? for those who may not know - a 504 is a special plan that you file with the school system to make sure that ALL school personnel follow the medical needs of your child. Speak with her school nurse to start it off. I hope she finds relief of the spasms in the short term but she will have A for the rest of her life so the school system needs to have this on file. Here was my experience when I was her age. I had finally been diagnosed at age 15 and one of the recommendations of my GI of course was to eat small snacks frequently but students were not allowed to eat in class... The school nurse had given me a special pass to put in my purse - giving me permission to eat in class but I still had teachers who wouldn't let me!! Had my parents known (I don't even know if 504 existed then) maybe we could have done it differently. I work in a school now and every year before school starts - the faculty get together and go over all the various allergies, diabetics, seizure disorders and all the other medical issues our kids have. We are required LEGALLY to follow their 504 designations. Now - for the spasms - maybe speak with her doctor about doing a VERY low dose anti-depressant at night. For many of us, that has been a huge difference. Good luck and please keep us posted. ~ in NC
