Thank you.... I guess we all want to know 'why' and what caused it and

grab at any link we can find.

I don't believe that Aciphex or any of the PPIs cause Achalasia. There

are people that do. But as far as I know the only evidence for that is

that like you they took it and then ended up with achalasia. They

probably also had chest pains, took Tums or other antacids and have many

other things in common but like to blame the PPIs, not whatever caused

the pain or the acid reflux or the antacids or any of the other common

stuff. But if anyone can show me real quality data and a mechanism by

which it can happen then I am will to change my mind. At this time I

don't see any conniving evidence for a mechanism by which it could happen.

I drank Coke. Maybe that caused it. Cola consumption is known to cause

hypokalaemia and muscle problems.

Ok, that is all true but I am just joking about it causing achalasia,

though it makes more sense to me than PPIs causing it.

When I 1st was suffering from " A " , I was only taking Mortin for occasional

pain. I remember an Er doctor telling me to stop taking Mortin because he

thought it was causing me to throw up;this was before I was dx with " A. " The

funny thing is after my dilations Aciphex was my savior. I never had any GI

problems or heartburn before suffering from " A. " :) All the info I came across

has been that no one known what causes " A. "
