Guest guest
Hi All -- I just wanted to send out a note to give a big " THANK YOU " for this group. Many of your postings have comforted and provided me with valuable information with the management of my achalasia. I have been managing A for about 10 years and now I'm mental and emotionally ready to have surgey. I will start the intense dialogue with my insurance company to see if I can obtain one of the " highly " qualified doctors that many of you have listed throughout this group. I live in Virginia so I will need to seek out of state approval. If anyone has any suggestions on the best approach for insurance companys please let me know. ~ Living Life to the Fullest ~ Z
Guest guest
Hello, Start at the top.. ( surgeon that is) they usually will help you. Most insurance companies have this ridiculous dictionary of med. procedures. Because of the rarity of Achalasia, it says... botox or dilation. The quality well known renown in his field surgeon can and should write or discuss with the insurance company why these two procedures are NOT NOT NOT recommended and why the myo and fundo are the " accepted and recommend as standard " methods of treatment. Guest guest
Hi Z,  I also struggled with A for many, many years before I became emotionally ready to move forward and have the surgery. I started with getting all the tests done, especially the manometry, which confirmed EVERYTHING. Once that was done, I had a long talk with my GP. I took my research to him, explained that I wanted to pursue surgery with only the best of the best in the field of Achalasia. I gave my doctor names of surgeons that I wanted presented to the insurance for approval. It took some talking and arguing, but I finally was able to get approved to see someone that I felt good about.  Wishing you all the best, the surgery for me was worth it, I am so angry that I waited this long, should have done it years ago! Keep us posted!  Julee So.
