Hi Joann,

I googled it (Mystery Diagnosis Own Achalasia) and watched the video. I think

going for Botox every 4 months instead of having surgery would be pretty

horrible. The laparoscopic myotomies performed now are not even as remotely

painful as the open procedures. This option was not even mentioned and I found

that simply promoting Botox is wrong considering how many people in our group

have been told that it creates scar tissue. I'm sorry to be so discouraging,

but chances are we'll be seeing Sadie having surgery in the future. (Sorry)

Thunder Bay, Ontario

P.S. Debbie is the only person I can think of that is doing great from having

Botox. Ray . . . are you getting Botox as well?

Subject: Achalasia was on " Mystery Diagnosis! "

I was flipping through the tv channels and started watching the tv show " Mystery

Diagnosis. " The girl was talking about symptoms I had when I first was

experiencing my achalasia 36 years ago. I kept thinking " could this possibly be

they are going to say she has Achalasia? " Well, she did and it was a great show.

I am sure it will come on again if you want to try and catch it. It was on the

new Oprah " OWN " channel and the title of the show was " Too Young to Be Sick. " It

was the 2nd story on the show half way through. It aired for the first time on

4-6-11. I had to tape it and show my husband because just hearing people talking

about it was facinating. She was treated early on with botox injections which

helped her. Oprah has a lot of repeated shows on her new network so I am sure it

will come on again. Pretty interesting! I saw it on Thursday June 9th. Joann

Oh, I totally agree. Botox is temporary and in most cases will not last very

long. Myotomy is a must once dialations don't work well. I just thought the

show was interesting. Just seeing the word " achalasia " on national tv was

shocking. Joann

I want to watch the whole program. Anyone know how to find it? I googled it,

but it was just a short piece.
