Guest guest
Glad to hear that you are doing better each day. For me the shoulder pain was really painful and seemed to last about 2-3 wks and then it just suddenly stopped one day. It had me a bit worried why it lasted so long, but the gas they use during surgery gets trapped and slowly will work its way out. The pain deep inside and probably the surgery itself hurts and will feel much better by 6 weeks. Even after a couple months I could still feel the tenderness in that area, after that it will just fade away more and more. Compared to before surgery, I eat very well and can swallowing things without the feeling that they are stuck or want to come back up. BUT, I still have to eat smaller bites and chew well. If I eat something really " dry " like plain rice, it can get stuck if I eat too fast. I still toast my bread, which helps things go down for me. I bet it feels good to eat food again, even mushy foods!!!! My first treat of mashed potatoes was like heaven! Wishing you all the best. The gas pain seems to be gone. I'm still feeling referred pain in my collarbone and shoulder area though. Do you guys know when that goes away? It specifically hurts when I take a deep breath, and it only seems to happen after I eat a bigger meal. Today was the first today I progressed to mushy foods. I had some pasta for lunch, and some soft crock-pot chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner. I know it probably takes the esophagus and wrapped stomach a good amount of time to heal from being cut/moved, so I'm not too concerned about the pain, but I'm curious what you guys experienced. My incision area feels a lot better. I'm able to tolerably laugh now without too much pain. I've been yelling, " Don't make me laugh! " at my boyfriend for these past six days. I'm chuckling a little now at how absurd that is and it feels pretty good. People still cringe a bit when I show them my incisions, and I can't decide whether I'm just tough or it looks worse than it feels. I'm going on a road trip tomorrow to see my boyfriend's parents so we'll see how I handle the long car ride. I'll definitely bring a pillow for the seat belt. And pain killers. Got to love those pain killers.
Guest guest
It does take a while to heal. Some of us have a harder time than others taking it easy, but it's a good idea not to do any heavy lifting and such until the doc says it's ok. The meds work better with wine. Not a whole bottle, mind you, but ignore the docs on this one and enjoy a glas or two. Beer helps food go down. Remember, there is still inflamation down there and take it slow when eating. Guest guest
The thing that helped me the most with the pain in the shoulder/back area was a heating pad. Of course, my husband says that a heating pad is my answer to everything that hurts. Either way, it soothed me, and the pain didn't seem as bad.  Pam From: darpoeta <chelseadappen@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, June 7, 2011 12:21 AM Subject: 6 Days Post-Op Update  I'm doing pretty well.
