Guest guest
hi, i have been mostly lurking for a while now had a heller myotomy in um, 2006 maybe anyway, i discovered in 2010 that i am allergic to gluten, such that when i stopped eating gluten, i stopped virtually all my spasms i was getting spasm " attacks " once or twice a week, but they went away within 10-15 minutes of (constantly) drinking something cold however, now, when i do accidentally have gluten, i get spasms/burning that only stops momentarily when i drink something and last for 12+ hours consequently, i've been to the ER three times now with water intoxication (combined with the esophogeal pain) anybody else? any ideas on how to stop the pain that only stops momentarily from drinking something? Guest guest
-- Have you tried any of the standard helps? (Go to the files section and read the one titled " Debbi's NCCP Post.doc " or do a search here for " Debbi's Dissertation " -- it's been posted and reposted dozens upon dozens of times, so it comes up quite easily on search. If you haven't tried those tips, that gives you a starting point. Take the article in to your family doctor and talk to him/her about your options. (Paxil seems to be the best, based on reports from members of this group -- 5mg at bedtime every day keeps the spasms at bay!) If none of those things have worked for you, at the very least drink Gatorade or some other electrolyte replacement drink instead of water, and eat something salty (or just swallow some saltwater). Water intoxication is hyponatremia -- abnormally low sodium levels. And for the love of all that is holy, STOP going to that ER -- if you've been there THREE times for the same thing and they never once told you how to avoid water intoxication, they are medically incompetent. Heck, I don't even have a degree yet and I know how to avoid water intoxication. Guest guest
thanks for the response i guess i didn't ask my question very well - i guess i wanted to know if anybody else has times where ONLY swallowing liquid helps i do realize i should drink broth, gatorade, etc - and the doctors have said as much but i tend to be hopeful that it will go away, so i just keep refilling a jug i have tried all the standard fixes, but when im having this, nothing helps but swallowing my GI doc doesn't have any other suggestions either i go to the ER for the pain killers, really, with a side effect of low saline/potassium > > > > hi, > > > > i have been mostly lurking for a while now > > > > had a heller myotomy in um, 2006 maybe > > > > anyway, i discovered in 2010 that i am allergic to gluten, such that when i stopped eating gluten, i stopped virtually all my spasms > > > > i was getting spasm " attacks " once or twice a week, but they went away within 10-15 minutes of (constantly) drinking something cold > > > > however, now, when i do accidentally have gluten, i get spasms/burning that only stops momentarily when i drink something and last for 12+ hours > > > > consequently, i've been to the ER three times now with water intoxication (combined with the esophogeal pain) > > > > anybody else? any ideas on how to stop the pain that only stops momentarily from drinking something? > > >
