Guest guest
Good morning all. I was wondering if anyone has any statistics on achalasia occurring in more than one family member. My 11 year old has it, and I know the rarity of it on children, so I imagine the odds of it occurring in another family member are pretty slim. Just asking because I myself have been having some very unusual symptoms lately. Just curious..... Guest guest
, I have asked this question to several doctors in various field of medicine. The disease is rare but they have not found any connection with heredity. I have even asked a deeper question. Is this is the same lines as other neuro disease like ALS or Alshimers. The neurologist told me that he has not read anything or seen any reasearch that would connect Achalasia with other disease. in Georgia in Georgia From: <grneyegrrl@...> Subject: Odds of achalasia in families?? achalasia Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 9:51 AM Good morning all. Guest guest
Thanks . I find this disease both fascinating and scary. Scary because I watch my son suffer with it, but fascinated by how little the medical community knows about it in this day and age. Hopefully in my sons lifetime someone will have the answers. Guest guest
There's that German study right now looking at the link between achalasia and hirschprung's disease in the same families. My entire family donated spit! My siblings have often commented that they get things " stuck " too, but I think everyone must experience that to some degree (occasionally). Neither one of them has, for example, ever lost any weight due to not being able to eat. For achalasians, food " sticking " is the norm rather than the exception. That said, there's no reason it couldn't happen to two people in the same family. > > > > From: <grneyegrrl@...> > > Subject: Odds of achalasia in families?? > > achalasia > > Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 9:51 AM > > > > > > > > Good morning all.
