,

Sounds to me like 2 things. First you will need to remove the scar tissue from

the anastomosis. I guess its too tough for a balloon so maybe surgery would be

the next step to remove it and open up the passageway.

As for the birds beak at the bottom of your stomach? I think that is the pyloric

sphincter and I am not sure if Achalasia can affect it. I wonder if a dilitation

is needed to open it up more so that food can pass through. I will do some

research so see if there are documented cases of Achalasia of the pyloric

Sphincter.

For now hang in there. I feel like you are getting to the bottom of this

situation. My prayers are with you!

clearly show a holdup around the ectomy anastomosis with some barium remaining

above it. The barium then goes through down to the bottom of my stomach in what

clearly looks like a birds beak shape which the doctor said was Classic

Achalasia. they were willing to chat about the birds beak but not about the

possible pictures and videos of the anastomosis. I know that i had no right to

ask the doctor questions because she said that she wants to consult with a

couple of colegues before making out a report for my surgeon before my July 4th

outpatient appointment. now how can i have Classic Achalasia at the bottom of my

stomach after an ectomy? this i shall bring up in clinic ans well as a multitude

of questions about the anastomosis and why barium remained trapped there (the

doctor showed me this on the video). What next?

regardless of who says what, and most " experts " (ie. doctors) out there have

a LOT of opinion... if your barium swallow showed that you have a hold-up,

the only answer (in my humble opinion!) is to go ahead and have the

laproscopic Heller Myotomy procedure. I went through a lot of tests (CT

scans, endoscopy, gastroscopy, blood tests, etc, etc) but it wasn't until I

saw my barium swallow that I figured out I had Achalasia. At that point, you

can think about Botox, Dilations, etc... but in all honesty the best option

for you is the HM. I did it, food and liquids can pass through again, and

I'm kindasorta back to normal ;-))

Was wondering if you had pyloroplasty done at the time of your ectomy? My

surgeon did a pyloroplasty in conjunction with the gastric pull-up during my

ectomy. Really hope you find relief and resolution very soon.

This article may be of interest. Remembering that most ectomies are done for

cancer there are cases of lower stomach obstruction after an ectomy. Maybe more

likely the cause then another type of achalasia.

Hi

Thank you for your advice. The Barium Swallow is plaguing my mind a bit but i

will get it sorted out one way or another. I am not one to sit and do nothing. I

will see what the surgeon who referred me for the Barium says when i am

scheduled to see him on July 4th.

- for what it's worth - I had a pyloroplasty done as well

~ in NC

>

> Actualy Jeff  the answer is no. At the time that i had the ectomy done i

never had the pyloroplasty done and in fact was never offered to have it done at

the same time as the ectomy back in October 2004. I will bring that up at clinic

on July 4th actually. Thank you.
