Hi... people have different methods for sprouting or germinating rice and grains

.... I have an article for my method at my website... it is specific to short

grain brown rice... http://www.bacteriapimp.com/9.html Let me know if it is

useful for you.. all the best

I have a problem with grains.. I may even be celiac, but regardless, I feel

awful when I eat grains, with the exception of rice..

So does sprouting do away with the stuff that causes people to be ill from

eating grains?

Can organic rice be sprouted?

Do sprouted beans need to be cooked, cause frankly they taste awful raw?

Are mung beans the ones that sprout 3 to 5 inches long?

Is that Sproutman sprouting wheel worth the six bucks?

Is alfalfa a grass or a vegetable?

Enough for now...

Thanks C.

I have a harder time eating sprouted grains than I did with cooked

grains. I pretty much just avoid them all together at the moment.

Have you tried some other grains that like rice have no gluten?

Buckwheat is a good choice and very easy to sprout. Other gluten-free

choices would be; quinoa, millet, amaranth, chia, flax, and I'm sure

other's on this list can supply more suggestions. If it is celiac,

eating gluten-free grain would be a good test to find out what you

need to avoid.

HI... If kefir is correctly fermented it would be lactaid free but there are

other ways to get these kinda benefits... ie, kombucha, and now EM

micro-organisms that can be used as new probiotic suppliements, they are not

freeze dried and can almost be as effective as kefir

There are now probiotic soaps and probiotic cleaning sprays... I am fascinated

by them... I am a bacteriapimp you know

Hi , yes organic rice can be sprouted, if its brown. White rice has

been processed and is really dead.

Yes cook the beans just as you would if they weren't sprouted.

Mung beans are the ones you see if the produce dept. called bean sprouts.

Use mainly in Asian cooking.

The Sproutman wheel is not worth six bucks. I got one free with my

Freshlife and have never really had any use for it.

Alfalfa is a legume. A member of the pea/bean family.

I can't address what makes people ill. I am blessed. I can eat most

anything.

Keep asking questions.

Ok, guys.. those seeds I bought at the Health Food Store, that didn't sprout so

good.... well I soaked some more in warm water and changed it out ever time I

thought about it... and it spouted pretty good.  Sprouts were longer and overall

more robust...  getting the hang of this I am.. but I don't like sprouted beans

raw or cooked so I shall not be doing beans..

Yeah, me too! I sprouted some adzuki beans last month--for a long time, because

I wanted SPROUTS, not beans--and I saw why EW's wife won't eat the roots. Ewww,

they look so devilish... Just had to break them all off; it was a lot of work

for little benefit.

So I won't be doing that again. When I think " sprouts " I am thinking green

veggies. If I want beans, I'll cook beans. Still, I hate to just cook up those

adzuki beans I paid good money for. I guess I'm going to have a bean garden this

year... Same with the peas, didn't like them sprouted. Lentils, too.

I'm glad you all like these things, wish I did. I do like the radish and the

alfalfa sprouts, though. I wonder if I can get an Easy Sprouter in Canada?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. Shipping anything into Canada from the States

is enormously expensive--and sometimes the customs people get into the act as

well--so I try not to order outside of my country. (Which is, of course, what

the government WANTS, but, hey, I'm poor! :)

So I'm just pondering if there are any Canadian outlets for Easy Sprouter.

The peas will do greens! Yummy too. I cut the pea itself off, along with

the roots, after the shoots get about four inches or so. I don't like the

peas themselves.

That's what I was hoping for...but they didn't grow very fast and I eventually

concluded that the sprouts weren't going to get much longer and would actually

spoil, so I cooked them in a stew.

I must be thinking more in terms of VOLUME than QUALITY, so I'm only happy with

sprouts that multiply size-wize. Planting those beans and peas will get me a

whole lot more volume, more bang for my buck. And, hey, I needed garden seeds

anyway. :)

the storefront. Click on " equipment and supplies " and you will see it

When you say the roots look " so devilish " that is a completely

arbitrary judgement. Millions of people worldwide eat millions of

pounds of bean and other sprouts every day (roots and all) and they

relish them. As for me, sometimes I have to choose to eat something

based on it's health benefit and often actually liking it comes

later. Little children would never eat (taste) anything new if their

parents gave them a choice. So I guess my suggestion is to grow up

and make healthy choices!

As to the Easy Sprouter, your Health Food store that sells the Mumm's

seeds might be able to order you one from them or you could order it

from their Canadian web site since they do list them.

Hey Connie,

Give the roots a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sprouted lentils are delicious

in a salad!!!! As are Adzuki, I right now am sprouting Black Beans for

either Beans and Rice or Meatless Spagetti, I am also sprouting Pintos that

will be the main dish for our supper tonight. The first time I fixed

sprouted beans for supper my husband jokeingly said " Oh, so we are having

worms for supper " . EW, I thought of your wife when he said that. The

sprouted beans are delious and I do not have the gastric difficulties that I

was having every time I ate beans. Which is good since beans can be a low

cost alternative to meat. As I have always said, " try anything at least

once " I have discovered there are things that I did not know that I really

liked. I tried Sushi once and now that is that!!!! Your sprouts weither it

be Leafy sprouts, Bean sprouts or Sprouted Grains are so much healthier for

you.

Not so! My boy (who is now 26, and quite thin) would taste anything! I

couldn't keep him from trying things! I ate lots of really spicy food back

then, so I often tried to convince him it would not be in his interest, but

he wanted it anyway. The only thing that boy would not eat was black

olives-- but he still *tried* them!

Maybe I just need better education, a chart maybe. I can sprout mung beans okay,

but I was expecting to have the same result with the adzuki beans. Honestly, I

was SCARED to try eating them! So the chart could say something like:

long sprouts (i.e. 3-6 inches): mung, y, z

short sprouts (i.e. barely visible tail): adzuki, y, z

soak (i.e. softened): rice, wheat, z

etc.

When someone says " I am sprouting xxx " I think long sprouts like mungs and

alfalfa but I know it means everything else, too, so I don't know quite what to

do!

I'm such a newb at thiss!

Oops, did I offend you? Perhaps that was a bad choice of words--I am very sorry.

I know my thinking needs to change. I was raised a meat and potatoes girl, and

married a meat and potatoes man. We raised weiners, pasta and cheese kids. Oy

vey! It's an uphill battle to try and change everyone's eating habits and now

that they're old enough to buy their own and bring home junk to share, it's even

worse. I have spurts of healthy food times, then because I'm busy or discouraged

I fall off the turnip truck and into the meat wagon.

Thanks for the slap!
