Hi all,

I subscribe to the search term " achalasia " for the PubMed medical database, and

here are this week's research studies on Achalasia. Two things interested me -

one is a new diagnostic technique for the manometry for those who can't tolerate

the typical " down the nose " version, and the other is about a gene called

ALADIN. The formatting is weird on the email so feel free to go to

http://pubmed.com and do a search for achalasia to find out more.

Hi all,

This is what came up in the results for achalasia in the PubMed database this

week. This is a letter to the editor about a case study of a man who had been

diagnosed with achalasia, got dilation, then no treatment for 15 years, and then

died of squamous cell carcinoma.

Here is a link to the actual

article: http://www.grupoaran.com/mrmUpdate/lecturaPDFfromXML.asp?IdArt=4619641 & \

Achalasia group,Here are the latest results from the NCBI database regarding

Achalasia. The third one is an overview of treatment options - and I like what

they said - " Their own preference should be included in the decision-making

process, and treatment should meet the local expertise with these procedures. "

This is relevant to me as I am meeting with two surgeons in the next couple of

weeks, and I would like to try dilation first before myotomy, and I'm afraid

they are going to push myotomy cause I'm " young " (34). The fourth is about the

relaxation of the sphincter muscle in children, interesting. The fifth one

explains that achalasia is often misdiagnosed as GERD, and it recommends

everyone should get a manometry before getting surgery for GERD.The formatting

is weird, so if you want to read it, go to http://pubmed.com and search

achalasia.S
