Guest guest
here's my experience and what I decided - for what it's worth. I had just one myo - back in 1989 and other than raging spasms on a regular basis - I ate pretty well for almost 18 years. Finally, my E just got so grossly distended and twisty - I sent my records to both Dr. Rice and Dr. Luketich. They both called me and offered a 2nd myo but both believed that it would last 5 years tops and then I'd need an ectomy anyway. I opted to go straight for the ectomy - my thought was, really? why have a myo and then need an ectomy anyway?? Also, because I'd had no weight loss and was in good health - I opted to go for the ectomy while I was still in really good health and could plan it and do it on my terms. It's not often, but we've had a few members who had to have the ectomy on an emergency basis and with 2 small kids - I didn't want that to be me. One other note and you can do some research here but I've been a member of this group for probably about 9 years now and I can't remember ANYONE ever having a 3rd myo. I would even go so far as to say that I'm not aware of anyone having great long term success with a 2nd - couple 3-5 years tops it seems. You're seeing Dr. Maish, yes? someone who's done lots and lots of myos and/or ectomies? That's the real key. Keep us posted and good luck with whatever you decide. ~ in NC
Guest guest
Thanks , Just what I needed to hear.my doctor told me that it would last 5 years maybe less.it just seems like a waste to me. But I wanted to be through and check with the group. Even after they mentioned the third myo they said I'd have to have an ectomy anyway down the line. Thanks so much! > > here's my experience and what I decided - for what it's worth.
