Guest guest
Calcium channel blockers are good for that. Such as Procardia. From: josef <schmundt@...> Subject: Angina like pain caused by irritable esophagus achalasia Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2011, 6:42 PM  I just read this in one of the sites files and it seems like this may be causing my shest pain rather then spasms. My pain is a sharp stabbing short duration pain, that comes on about evry 30 seconds or so for around 5-10 minutes at a time.I don't get any cramping as some paople describe with spasms. It's just a sharp pain. They say benzodiazepines can help with this, but they are quite addictive.I know my nitro glycerin works on it also because when it first started happening I thought it was angina and treated it with that. After having some cardiac tests I found that I had no issues there and that's when I started looking at other causes.I am just hoping that they eventually go away as they are quite bothersome. Some people may feel " cramping " but doubt if most people do. Often it is mistaken for very bad heartburn from acid, or an ER may think you could be having a heart-attack. Where and just how they feel differs though from one person to the next. > ....I know my nitro glycerin works on it also because when it first > started happening I thought it was angina and treated it with > that. After having some cardiac tests I found that I had no issues there > Nitro glycerin relaxes smooth muscles. The blood vessels and heart are made of smooth muscles but so is part of the esophagus. It could be relaxing the esophagus. There are other smooth muscles relaxers that are used for this. Often they are calcium channel blockers CCBs. notan
