Guest guest
I have had a lot of relief from spasms when I finally realized that I should burp to relieve the pressure. It is not pretty but even if you are spasming for an hour, it still lessens the pain if you continually belch every time you feel that wave of pressure coming back again. Drinking water helps but i try to only drink one cup per hour, otherwise it can make you spit up too much. When I first had the myotomy 3 years ago the spasms were often and sometimes I would be in so much pain I felt like vomiting and I went to the bathroom to do that because I was all clammy and my mouth watered, so I tried and tried to throw up. Of course the muscles are all dead and don't work anymore but just the attempt to do it would somehow cause my painful spasms to cease for the evening. That was what made me think that the burping might work next time (seemed to make sense to me) and it did ease the pain at least halfway or more next time! Thank God my husband is understanding and my kids are too young to really pay attention to all of it. Anyway, three years later the pains are fewer and far between. The major problem is when I get sick and cough a lot it will cause so much irritation in the esophagus and often will make the spasms start up again. I try so hard to not have a lot of post nasal drip that will cause the coughing. Mucinex is a wonderful thing when that starts up. Maximum dosage. I buy the smaller pills and take two at time, because the higher dose pills are too big to swallow. Hope this is helpful and not too much info!! IT DOES GET BETTER. It's never normal, but at least it's more functional.
