Guest guest
Hi there. I don't post about myself often but am really struggling at the moment. The upper end of my oesophagus is constricting to a point where I struggle to get any food down. I have an appointment for a dilatation on June 28th to see if this gives any respite. I am really struggling with overwhelming tiredness and generally feeling very unwell due to lack of food and am at a point where my ability to work is being severely compromised. I am self employed and have worked hard to build up my business and it is soul destroying to be at a point where I am too unwell to work. I have every hope that I will improve but in the meantime knowing that the next few weeks will be very hard and my work will suffer is tough. thanks for listening. I take one day at a time and usually manage well with this hateful condition. However it feels like it is getting the better of me at the moment! Best wishes to everyone. Guest guest
Thanks so much for the replies. Your empathy has helped enormously. The alternative therapies might at least make me feel pampered so I will book myself in for a massage. I will also mention to my consultant how unwell I am - I hadn't wanted to hassle but you are right, not being able to work for much longer is pretty serious. Thanks so much xx > > I am so sorry you are having a rough time. My daughter went through about three weeks of spasms and not being able to eat or drink. We went to acupuncture four times during that period, also a massage and a chiropractic adjustment. I don't know if the alternative aproaches helped or just distracted, but as my grandmother always said, it couldn't hurt! > > Sent from my iPhone >
Guest guest
It is very hard when you don't feel like eating. I have found drinking Ensure (better if used with ice cream) or Carnation Instant Breakfast has helped me get nutrition and some energy. Good Luck!! Guest guest
Hi Kay I know how you feel as i too am having problems with that little bit of upper oesophagus left after the ectomy. I too have recently had 2 dilatations since February after being trouble free with swallowing in that area for 6 years! I am having a Barium Swallow this coming Monday to see if there is a problem in that area and i am to see surgeon on July 4th for results. I also have the use of a Jejunal feeding tube for overnight feeds and since i am now having problems again i have had to increase the feed volume to cover any loss of appetite during the day. It can be very debilatating. and make you very tired (like me) during the day. Please keep in touch as i would like to know. from the UK From: Kay Davies <kayf.davies@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, June 1, 2011 3:54 PM Subject: feeling very low  Hi there. Guest guest
thanks so much Barb and for your support. I have gone into survival mode and pray that the dilatation gives me some relief. I have had some great advice from the dietician which is proving really helpful but might try the ensure drinks just as an added bit of oommph. best wishes to you all. Guest guest
Kay, I was doing terribly before I finally found a doctor that actually diagnosed me with achalasia. But when I was at my worst, I went to accupuncture and it definitely relieved the symptoms. Didn't sure me, but made me feel better. I would definitely recommend! > > > > I am so sorry you are having a rough time. My daughter went through about three weeks of spasms and not being able to eat or drink. Guest guest
Thanks so much, Leo. What a great idea. I had completely lost track of pampering myself and have had several lovely suggestions on here. I am going to start with a massage and work my way through things! The Accupuncture sounds like a good idea, always a chance it might help. Thanks so much xx > > > > > > I am so sorry you are having a rough time.
