Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I am reading all your stories and must include mine also! I'm sure that this huge pile of information is extremely helpful to those that will be looking for answers and help in their own journey with Achalasia. My swallowing issues started at the age of 30, things just felt stuck and soon it took on a life of it's own. My symptoms were more gradual, but swallowing was always work, and drinking lots of liquid became a neccessity. I had spasms off and on also, along with choking at night, so I slept on two pillows always and still it would happen. I spent my thirties, drifting from doctor to doctor and nothing was accomplished, I had many dilitations, but NOT the balloon kind, so they never worked for long. I gave up and tried to live with it. Last year, after much advise and help from this group I was finally diagnosised and had Heller Myotomy/Dor at UCLA, with Dr. Maish. The surgery was life changing for me, I can EAT!!! I can go in public and enjoy a meal with others!!! I can sleep on one pillow and so far no spasms or reflux at 7 months post op. Doing great! Julee So Calif.
