Guest guest
Watched the report and they said people with Alzheimer's have swallowing problems so I wonder if Achalasia is a start toward Alzheimer's. My sister on law had Alzheimer's and that is what happened to her, soon they forget to swallow, then they die for lack of nourishment. I had a stroke 14 years ago during a heart angiogram, left me sort of stupid, but now it seems to me, I have recovered from the stroke. My wife says I am ok, other than I had a talking problem for a few years. Notan has there been any connections between Achalasia and Alzheimer's?? I hope not! My Achalasia started about 6 years ago after GERD in the middle of the night. Ray CA OC
Guest guest
With late Alzheimer's, lots of things start going wrong. I would be very surprised if there were a connection. We have lots of members here who are sharp even though they are of advanced years. We probably would have noticed by now if achalasia was a precursor to that problem. We achalasians usually get misdiagnosed with GERD when what we are experiencing is the backup of the contents of our esaphagous which never made it into the stomach in the first place. Guest guest
Just recently I read somewhere that a sign of early Alzheimers is a decreased ability to understand sarcasm. It was an article discussing how to diagnose Alzheimer's earlier so people could be more successfully treated. Whew, that was a relief, I can still get sarcasm, not so good with memory, like names or where I put my keys.
