Saw surgeon last Monday (14th) in Liverpool and was recomended for endoscopy and

dilatation. Yesterday (21st) i had a letter from the endoscopy unit asking me to

phone to make urgent appointment for my procedures. So i am to have endoscopy

and dilatation on Monday March 21st for 10 am. was offered an earlier date but

the time given for the endoscopy was 6.50 pm, too late for me as i have to

travel as well as recover from sedation. So March 21st it is at 10am. This will

give me time to recover from the sedation during the day. I contacted the

surgeon's secretary on Monday morning as planned and was told that the endoscopy

unit will keep me in the unit for a minimum of 2 hours post procedure and yes i

will have to have the sedation for the dilatation but if the endoscopy unit

think there is the remotest of chances that there will be a problem post op then

they will admit me for overnight observation.

Now here is the problem. Because i cough a lot especially at night when the

reflux acid actually goes down the wrong way, i think i may have a chest

infection so am seeing GP tomorrow morning to see if i need antibiotics before i

attend the endoscopy unit next month. There is pain in my back on the left side

and yes i bring up gunk every time that i cough but i am getting quite woozy and

woolly headed if you know what i mean so off to the GP for antibiotics just in

case it is serious. (I don't normally get chesty so am a bit concerned with

this.)

Dear ,

Your first paragraph sounds positive, except for the length of time that you are

having to wait. I do not consider the 21st March to be an urgent appointment

date. That's 4 weeks away!

As for your coughing, I would say that there is little doubt that you have some

kind of infection which needs treatment. The pain in your back would also

suggest that. I am not surprised that you feel " wooly-headed " with everything

that you are going through. Though I have to mention that that feeling is a

common symptom of the menopause, so might not be directly related to your chest

infection.

Best Wishes from Ann.

Ann, I was offered another date for the endoscopy and that was March 3rd but had

to turn that down as it was for a evening appointment and if i have the sedation

i would deffinately have to stay in for observation but taking 21st March 10am

appointment allows me to recover from the sedation in the endoscopy unit until

the afternoon if necessary to recover then i would be able to go home the same

day if you know what i mean.

Saw the GP this morning and yes i have a chest infection with a rattle in the

left lower lobe and a crackle can be heard as well so i was prescribed an

antibiotic for that. It just so happened that i mentioned that i also had an

infection in my j-tube stoma and so i also got a different antibiotic for that

as well. Two antibiotics! I mentioned that i was offered March 3rd as an

appointment at 7pm but had to turn it down as it was too late in the day for me

to have sedation, spend 2 hours recovering then travel home and start my daily

overnight jejunostomy feed. He now knows that i am taking the 21st March

appointment as it willl give me time to recover from any infections that i now

know that i have. You know as well as i do that should i turn up for March 3rd

appointment witha a cough then they will not do the dilatation for me even under

sedation so in all everything will work out ok in that department.

I had the Total Hysterectomy done back in 2000 for enormous fibroids and my

ovaries were removed at the time so in effect i was at the time put on HRT for a

few years so i have now gone through the menapouse thank god.
