Guest guest
, When did you have your Myotomy? What kind of pain are you experiencing? Some in this group feel better with fizzy drinks, some have problems associated with sodas. This condition has no standard diet, each person experiences reactions to different foods, each of us has to determine what we can tolerate and leave the " problem " foods alone. I, personally, have problems with salads, breads and fruits and vegetables that have skins, too hard for my system to digest. Sodas are not a problem for me. The foods that cause me pain are easy to resist because I associate them with pain and just eat something that is easier on my system. Good luck with you " A " diet. Guest guest
Barb, The pain that bothers me is this stabbing pain on both sides of my lower rib cage.I had my doctor get rid of the acetaminophen in my painkiller and that helped some, but now I'm trying to figure what else may be causing it.I never cared much for water and barely drink any at all and think this combined with 3 or 4 24 oz. bottles of ginger ale a day is causing some of my grief. My diet is nothing to brag about either.I have always ate whatever I wanted regardless of it's nutritional value and this may have aggravated my Esophagus to begin with. I am starting to have a problem when I sleep also.I wake up with heartburn right up in my throat and know I must be bringing it up when I'm sleeping.I have never had to use a wedge to sleep on mut may have to think about it. Overall I think I am doing good especially after being diagnosed with end stage achalasia after my first surgery.I didn't even know I had a problem at all until about a year ago at the age of 54. Hopefully I will be able to go another ten years before I have to have an esophagectomy.Thank you for your response. > > > > When I had my Heller Myotomy and partial Fundo done I stuck to my diet instructions explicitly. When I started feeling better I went back to drinking Ginger Ale like they weren't going to make it anymore.I know this is one of the major factors contributing to my stomach pain, but for some inane reason I refuse to come to grips with it.Almost like an alcoholic and his bottle.I drink very little water either.I guess i need a little feedback here to get me going down the correct avenue again. > > > > >
Guest guest
Where was your surgery? I can relate, when you have trouble eating after the surgery and your diet is so limited it is fantastic when you can eat again, easy to have the things we shouldn't. Before surgery I used a wedge pillow every night to prevent choking while I was asleep. Since the Heller I have used the wedge only sporadically. I have had pain every day since the surgery, had a dilation 7 months later and am still struggling to eat and maintain my weight. I have lost 30 pounds and definitely do not need to lose anymore. I was 57 when diagnosed a year ago. I have severe achalasia, so like you I hope I can maintain my health and prevent further surgeries. I am currently trying to find a good doctor in the Philadelphia, PA area.....the doctors I have had do not explain my condition or how to improve my health...I have been using my own research for detail. Good luck!!
