Guest guest
Marci, I too haven't found that water works for my spasms either. Â I am always happy to read that most people find such quick relief from their pain, but I, sadly, am not one of them. Â I stopped work 5 years ago because I would have them 3-5 days a week, normally on work days (my GI thinks stress is a big factor and I worked in a rather high stress job), lasting anywhere from 20 mins to normally 3+ hours. Â Laying down would help a bit, leaning to my left side. Â I would use a heating pad on low, and silly as it sounds, a hand weight (flat one) of 4lbs. Â Funny the things that I tried to get things to help. Â But those are my go-to routines now for pain. Â My GI had tried me on nitro (slow release daily and sublingual when required) about 10 years ago, but I have very low blood pressure, so I was damn near comatose on them, and wicked headaches started almost immediately as well. Â If you have normal/higher BP, then maybe you could look into that. I wish you the best in finding something quickly to deal with your pain. Â I always think that my lack of knowledge after my surgery left me at a disadvantage and now I'm hosed kim in canada \ From: Marcene Rainey <marcenerainey@...> Subject: NCCP post VATS heller myotomy achalasia Date: Monday, April 18, 2011, 1:48 AM Â Hi Everyone, Last week I had a VATS Heller Myotomy by Fuller at Cedars Sinai. My recovery is going well. I am excited to be eating and drinking without anything coming back up. For me, this surgery was difficult. I am hoping that the VATS will be a more final solution. I have a question about the NCCP's. Before I had the myotomy, if I had a NCCP, I could drink water and the pain would go away rather quickly. Now, after surgery, during a NCCP, the water did not help. I thought I read something about this in previous post but couldn't find it. Is there a way to look up information on previous posts regarding certain subjects? Thank you in advance for any help! Guest guest
You can find a whole section on what people do for spasms on the website. This group has lots of good information there and it's easy to access via the links that are in each message sent via the group. Guest guest
The spasms often are worse after surgery for a while. They taper off, much like earthquakes and aftershocks, usually. Water did not help me as much after VATS either, but food like Shepherd's Bread and water helps more than anything else I could find. If you think you can eat bread now, that is. My friend, Peggy, had same surgeon, and she found success with popsicles to stop spasms. The VATS recovery isn't quite as swift as the lap, it seems, maybe a few days longer and maybe higher pain meds for a few days. But the lap people often get bad pains in their shoulders from the gas that sounds very painful. The lap patients also get spasms after surgery, the doctors often don't seem to realize just how bad they are and seem surprised. > > Hi Everyone, > Last week I had a VATS Heller Myotomy by Fuller at Cedars Sinai.
