Guest guest
 So, a dilation? I can ask. I have a new gastro. m.d. and I doubt as if he'll be able to do anything about it. I went to a new clinic, not Cedars-Sinai where I had the Hellers. Maybe I could call Cedars and see as if anybody there could help me. I think I'm afraid that if I have a dilation, my esophagus will just keep on getting slumpy and that eventually I'll need an -ectomy. How are you doing, Ann? I do remember when you had your myotomy. Are you doing all right? Have you had to have a dilation? REPLY: Dear Deborah, It would be better of course if you could continue with treatment at the clinic where you had the myotomy, but I don't know if that's a choice that you have.  A dilation is not supposed to stretch the oesophagus, just stretch the LES. I can't understand why this wasn't discussed with you when you were given the results of your endoscopy. They knew your symptoms (I presume) and must have been able to see the actual state of your oesophagus and sphincter. That's what an endoscopy does, isn't it?  If you do need a dilation and are not getting one, you are MORE likely to end up needing an 'ectomy, because the food that cannot get into your stomach will be causing the O to go even more out of shape.  I would be grateful if someone else would comment on this, because I don't want to be leading you/Deborah down the wrong road. And I think that everyone here knows that my medical knowledge is far surpassed by how much I simply care about you all.  I have never needed a dilation. My myotomy was four and a half years ago and I continue to do very well. Thank you for asking. Please keep us informed, Best Wishes from Ann
