Guest guest
I just read this post and have something to say... This was the post I tried to have a manometry several years ago but had to stop halfway through because it was excruciating. I'm terrified to go through that again. I had nightmares about it for weeks afterward and could still feel that tube in my nose when I woke up...I remember someone posted here that their doc had the tube inserted while she was under anesthesia for a scope and it wasn't so bad that way...I know they can't give you any meds because they might interfere with the pressure in the E, but does anyone have any other tips for dealing with the manometry? I'm honestly more frightened of that than actual surgery. Ok, now my post. I had a horrific experience having a nurse attempt to put a nasal gastric tube up my nose. Many attempts went into my trach choking the crap out of me. Not to mention the severe pain of attempting it a dozen times. So when I was sent for my manometry test and the tech told me he was going to pass this small tube up my nose and down my throat... Oh yeah, really. I think not!!! I insisted the tube for the manometry test go directly into my mouth and down my throat for the test. He argued with me saying he never did it before but I would not change my mind. He went and asked the GI Dr. Dr. said it would be fine, it would not change the reading of the test. They were not worried about the upper throat area. I say unless they have had these tubes shoved up their nasal cavities they darn well better not complain when we tell them how painful it is. Good idea to pass the idea before your Dr. and get written permission so the tech will go along with it. Joann
