Guest guest
Hello, all! I just realized it's been a week or so since I updated you on how 's doing. A lot has happened since then. Last Sunday's MRI showed the area on his brain getting bigger, yet looking more defined, like an abscess. Monday morning, they did surgery to drain it. The surgeon said it had a lot of pressure in it and afterwards, said he could almost tell the difference with less pressure in his head. For having brain surgery, he really has been recovering fairly well. He came home from the hospital Thursday. He will have to have IV antibiotics once/day for 6 weeks. For 6 months, he won't be able to drive, since he had a seizure. Also, he will be on anti-seizure meds. for 3 to 6 months. The next few weeks will be busy with a follow-up MRI and visits with the neurosurgeon and infectious disease doctor. The surgeon said recurrence is very rare, but we all know (or anyone with A) has already experienced the rare case . I'm hoping his esophagus cooperates, letting him get the oral meds. down when he needs to. He was very fortunate to have only a couple episodes of spasms and dysphagia in the hospital. One time (post-op) was after getting his pain med., but fortunately he felt pain relief a little while later and we knew the pill made it down! He has been so happy to be home (after 11 days in the hospital), and he seems to be getting stronger daily. Thanks, everyone for your well wishes and prayers! Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and successful swallowing!! in Michigan
