Guest guest
Hi! Just a note to let the board know that I am doing really well one year on from my Esophagectomy. Am able to eat any food I like no matter how hot or spicy it is. Eat as late as I like with no reflux and am taking absolutely no medication what so ever!! Though I do sleep on a wedge and cannot sleep on my left side as I get a bit of acid pain then for some reason. Feels like the 20+ years of Achalasia was a bad dream that happened to someone else. Would still like to have more stamina but things are better than I can remember. This week have been off work and eating out a bit and had Tapas, Chinese and a Curry in resteraunts with no problems. Just eat a little less than others but not so you would notice. Have the odd issue with dumping, getting diarrhoea perhaps once or twice a month - nothing I can't handle! I think having the esophagectomy was a good decision for me, I have been thinking about the longer term consequences but so far so good. I am lucky in that there is a regular meeting of the Oesophageal Patients Association in the hospital where I had mine, [Oxford] where my surgeon Mr Maynard regularly attends. Its good to meet others that have the 'ectomy, though they all have had it due to cancer. We have about 40-50 people attending. Still pop in here regularly for a quick read of the posts but not as often as I used to. Its good to be an ex sufferer of Achalasia and its good that my op went well. Happy swallowing to everyone on the board!! regards tim
