Surgeons that do lap bands have to work in almost the same area as the myotomy is done. notan
Guest guest
I figured to wait for Notan to address the ANA and CCP test and then I would jump in on the other things. First lets address the Fevers. Quite possible you are creating a condition of aspiration pneumonia. Get checked!! How do you prevent it? Don't go to bed within 5 hours of eating. Make sure the " E " is empty. Empty it.!!! Get those nifty little risers from walmart and raise the head of your bed or use bricks, a foam wedge, whatever it takes. Lay on left side, E is on the right side and stomach is on the left. Take a PPO Prilosec over the counter is popular. Lastly.. start looking at the site page for a new , better, more knowledgeable, more concerned ACHALASIA SPECIALIST. Get a family member or good friend who is tough to advocate for you. Be your ears and question. Don't mess around with aspiration ... Coughing is like a fire alarm going off. Would you ignore it? The people on this board know what your are going through. please read, search , and talk to many. Hope this helps. Carolyn mom to Cameron myo'd fundo'd in 05 From: <lindsaywalk76@...> Subject: Positive ANA and CCP tests achalasia Date: Sunday, February 20, 2011, 6:33 PM  Just wondering if anyone else has had a positive ANA test (anti-nuclear antibody) along with a positive anti cyclic citrullinated antibody? Also another problem I am having quite frequently now that I believe is associated with my achalasia is that I am waking up with really bad chills (physically shaking) and high fevers, up to about 104, that last for about 8 hours. I assumed it was due to me coughing up into my lungs while I am laying down flat but my doctor doesn't seem to agree with me and thus has been running a lot of other tests on me. I cough up every night, but maybe once or twice a month I get these high fevers in the AM. Can this do long term damage to your lungs? I have been trying to get my achalasia under control for years now, but nothing has worked. I am still waiting to have surgery. Interesting enough, I am considered morbidly obese and have achalasia and I guess the surgery is not so friendly to people who have any sort of fat on their liver (per my surgeon). Anyone else have obesity problems with this disease?(I know it is an extreme rarity but I thought I would try) I would really like to hear from others! I am sick of talking to people who have no idea because they haven't seen or lived with this and I just keep feeling like I am getting left in the dark and made to suck up all the throwing up and coughing up just because I am still fat. Guest guest
Notan, Actually no, I don't think I have RA, I have no joint problems what so ever, but I have a feeling my doctor may go towards RA. I am only 27, so maybe it is what is to come. I know there is a theory floating that A might be due to an auto immune disease, so that is why I asked. Glad I am not the only one with the opposite weight problem, I have to admit I feel pretty stupid. My other concern is the A gets fixed and I end up gaining tons of weight because I can actually swallow without a struggle. Carolyn, Thank you for your suggestions, they are good ones! I have definitely learned to empty my E before bed. I am in the process of trying to figure out how I can prevent the coughing up, but I am having a hard time managing it, the wedge doesn't seem high enough for me. In hadn't thought to lie on my other side however. > > ...positive ANA test (anti-nuclear antibody) along with a positive anti cyclic citrullinated antibody? > > I think you are the first to bring up those results. Coughing is like a fire alarm going off. Would you ignore it? You are right, aspiration is nothing to mess with. Lung damage would not be a good thing. Also poor lung condition could be reason to postpone a surgery and cause increased risk of hospital infections. I was a bit puzzled by the " frequent " night fevers. Do others here have fevers from aspiration frequently? I could see it sometimes leading to fever just as it sometimes leads to pneumonia. I think it is good that the doctor is checking for causes besides the achalasia, but I think you are right that addressing the achalasia would be a big help to the lungs. notan
Guest guest
Thanks Notan, I don't post much on here but I know that your knowledge of the disease is some what vast from the posts I have read. Guest guest
Regarding your chills, I used to have chills were I wuold be really cold and shaking for several hours in the morning...sometimes after I got to work. This is when I was coughing up a lot at night and I was really weak and loosing weight. No one could explain the chills. Now I did not have the fever. I don't have the chills any longer. They stopped after the night time coughing stopped which was after I had my dilatation last year and started on the Chinese herbs and diet and got my strength back. I'm sorry I'm not more helpful. I understand how badly you feel. Guest guest
Hi , Regarding the fact that you say you are not thin; I have active Achalasia, and am not thin, either. This is my take on that; If you retain a lot of what you have ingested in your esophogus, it is not readily reaching your stomach in a timely fashion where it would send the message to your brain that you have eaten. This can make you overeat, as you do not get the fullness in the stomach, only in the E. My doctor feels there is validity to this, because after my two dilations, I was able to lose weight pretty easily. The feeling of being full stopped the hunger as it should. My doctor said that weight loss from A depends on the severity and the the individual case. The issue of coughing and fever must be addressed. If you are walking around with a bit of aspiration pneumonia, you need to have an antibiotic. See a pulminary doctor. They are also familiar with Achalasia, as some of their patients often get pneumonia from aspirating. Have you ever had a dilation? This could help you to empty your esophogus properly before lying down. Hope some of this is helpful to you. Guest guest
Thanks for your response Eva, just glad to know I am not the only one. Sounds like it is something similar to what I am having. > > > > Just wondering if anyone else has had a positive ANA test (anti-nuclear antibody) along with a positive anti cyclic citrullinated antibody? > > > > Also another problem I am having quite frequently now that I believe is associated with my achalasia is that I am waking up with really bad chills (physically shaking) and high fevers, up to about 104, that last for about 8 hours.
