Guest guest
Y'all know more about me than you probably care to know but I will give you a brief update as I am now almost 5 months post myo. I am 36 almost 37 and have struggled with A since I was 17. So WOW - 20 years now. It wasn't bad at first. Took me 4 years to go seek a diagnosis. At that point I couldn't swallow water. I was quickly diagnosed with A - on the spot. I feel lucky for that. Had a dilatation in 1996 and pretty much left it alone for 14 years. Over those 14 years my swallowing became more difficult but I compensated by chugging water to push food down and ignoring the fact that my E was constantly filled with food. I had my twin boys Dec 2007 and decided to look for a support group. Found this one. After reading all your comments, I decided to get a nother barium. In June 2010 I was diagnosed with end stage achalasia, 10.5cm diameter esophagus, tortuous and sigmoid. Yeah, fun times. With the help of all of you I chose my surgeon Dr. Luketich at UPMC to perform a Heller Myotomy with Dor Fundo on Oct 13th 2010. My results have been nothing short of fantastic. I can swallow. I drink because I am thristy. I eat and food clears my E and enters my stomach and I don't go to sleep with a filled E anymore. i do have some dumping issues but they are my fault because I know my triggers and ignore them. I do not have spasms or reflux. I consider myself considerably blessed and for that I am grateful. Cara
