Guest guest
Hi Great to read that you are doing great. I am curious by nature so may i ask if you are having problems with reflux? And if so how are you dealing with it? from the UK From: zlmmom1 <mcnairmichelle@...> achalasia Sent: Monday, February 28, 2011 2:58 PM Subject: RD Day - thanks to Ann for the reminder  I have had A since about 1980 at the age of 12 I remember having my first trouble swallowing. I was diagnosed originally as a 'stressed, teenaged girl' and with 'rats tail esophagus' (seriously - I think that guy made that up). I was officially diagnosed 3 years later after many bouts of nighttime regurg and getting up from the table to regurg in the kitchen sink. I had a dilation first - in the 80's that was standard course - and another dialation about every year or two until I was referred for a myo and Nissen Fundo at the age of 20 in 1989. Had 2 or maybe 3 post op dilations then I swallowed well for about 18 years. In the summer of 2007 I had a routine barium swallow and endospcopy which showed that my E had gotten grossly dilated and twisted. I sent medical records to both Dr.'s Luketich and Rice and they both recommended the -ectomy. I had my ectomy on Jan. 11th of 2008 and the first 6 months were REALLY tough but now I feel great, I can eat most anything and I'm a healthy weight. Most importantly - I have not had a spasm in over 3 years!! (cue Angels singing) My 'new normal' is very good. ~ in NC achalasia free since 2008
Guest guest
Hey - I take 20 mg. prilosec everyday but that's it. I do get a little reflux, especially if I bend over after eating but I try not to eat anything within about an hour of bedtime and still sleep with my wedge. I've found a new surgeon locally who does endoscopies so I'm working on getting in with him to get one done - it's been almost 2 years. If he finds any damage, I'll go on a larger dose of a PPI for a time and watch my diet more carefully but I haven't had any signs of damage yet so I think I'll be fine. > > Hi > Great to read that you are doing great. Guest guest
Hi I take 40mg Nexium in the morning and the same again at night. Unfortunately i cannot avoid bending over as i sit down in low chair to bend over to tie laces for instance or if i drop something on the floor, bend over to put the dog's leash on etc. Yes my reflux is pretty bad and my endoscopy that i am having on March 12st should show how much and will be discussed in clinic when all the results are in on May 16th. My Doctors are not all that keen on me staying on such a high dose of Nexium but until May 16th there is not much i can do anyway i have another bad chest infection for which i am on antibiotics to clear before the endoscopy. Unfortunately i seem to be getting chest infections often now due to aspiration from the reflux as i usually only get these every 4-5 yrs. from the UK From: zlmmom1 <mcnairmichelle@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, March 1, 2011 2:43 PM Subject: Re: RD Day - thanks to Ann for the reminder  Hey - I take 20 mg. prilosec everyday but that's it.
