Hi Dave,

If they are the top of the chain of command at USC, UCLA or Cedars, or you want

to travel somewhere else, then they are probably your best shot. If not the

head of the chains, then my opinion is that you are wasting your time. Usually

they don't say they can cure you for good, that would make me suspicious you are

seeing the middle or bottom of the chain. Yes, they will be eager to work on

you. Who did you see?

Ignoring achalasia doesn't make it go away. It may hide, it may stabalize, but

it never gets better without treatment.

I'd suggest treatment, I know you've had issues for a while. It just doesn't

get better. My theory is always to save what you have to avoid a worse

situation later... the whole stitch in time saves nine idea.

Call some of us. Matt had a recent surgery and he doing well, I believe, I'm 6+

years or so... Kathie, if you remember her, is still doing well. There are more

of us I can dig up that are close.

Good luck

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Happy New Year ! Thanks. Yeah, it caught me off guard.

It's the first time I had ever been guaranteed anthing

other than " no guarantees " with a medical procedure.

So Matt, Kathie and yourself have had a second myotomy ?

Was it open or lapro ? I'll call and chat.

My first one was a $50K affair at USC University Hospital

with Dr s, one of the procedure pioneers in 2001. I

think he is in upstate NY now.

Cedars (Dr. Bray) had referred me to him as the best after

the diagnostics. Unfortunately, all of the torn muscle and

scar tissue from my previous balloon stretches (dilations)

diminished the " elastic muscle rebound " from the cut.

The current white coats that I am seeing are affiliated with

UCLA. A well-kept secret is that ....VA staff @ West LA are

actually UCLA staff if you hit the right day so it's a matter

of synchronizing the clinic visit when the GI Chief was there.

Luckily, I won't have any expense on this one if I decide to

go for it since I am a veteran.

You may find this interesting. A determination was made just

this year..radiation levels I was exposed to when I worked at

the Nevada Test Range in 1979, when I was 19, may have been a significant factor

in my GI malaise...I always thought it may

be related to events that occured there.

Shortly after then is when things went downhill and I became

balloon boy for all the Pakastani interns. I'll advise if the

board makes the determination in my favor which it looks like

they may do soon.

Best

I did have a Lapro with DOR Fundo last September.  I eat steak with no problems

nows.  I do get some issues with middle eastern food (hummus and pita bread) if

I dont chew well and use alot of water.

Don't know if that helps, just my two cents.

Have you ever watched a bad movie twice ?

So..all the ambitious new surgeons anxious

to get some hours digging around informed

me " things have changed from ten years ago "

from when I got my Heller & Nissen Fundo.

The Chief returned with the indians saying

they can " fix me for good " if I'd like to go

under the knife again with a crack you open

like a walnut version of the first lapro go.

" Oh Really " I said. " Let me consult my group

and ponder your generous proposition. "

Love to hear from anyone who has had a redo..

if you were " saved " and are now throwing bak

steaks and gummy bears like there's no 2moro.

Best Wishes to all...
