Guest guest
Hello I haven't posted in a while as i have had to concentrate on coping with very bad reflux and yes a stricture in my ectomy join in the neck. I have been on Nexium 40mg morning and night but still i have the reflux. So my GP faxed my surgeon in Liverpool with urgency as i am having big issues with swallowing again and i saw my surgeon in Liverpool yesterday after getting an urgent letter to turn up for clinic last week. After describing that the only way i can get even soft food down is to hiccup or jump up and down he immedietely mentioned that the acid that i am refluxing could have scarred the ectomy join in my neck and could have caused a stricture there. As i told him that i have about 10 reflux episodes a night when on jejunostomy overnight feeds and about 8 episodes during the day, he imedietelly said that i need a camera down to inspect the join and to check what the hold up is at the bottom of the stomach tube as well as evaluate the damage done overall by the acid. So i am to have another dilatation and if i do not hear from them with a date within 3 weeks i am to contact them urgently! After a break of 6 years without needing a dilatation i am now back to having another. my only fear is that living a big distance (big for me) from the hospital is it wise to have sedation if i am to have the dilatation? Has anyone out there had a dilatation of the stricture without sedation? I don't know if i can handle that so may have to plump for the sedation and be kept in hospital overnight for recovery. Don't know. from the UK
