When I had my last endoscopy in November, 2010, I had lots of polyps in my

stomach, but they are benign and my GI said I didn't need to worry about

them. Doctors had prescribed nexium for several months before, which I have

read leads to a high likelihood of stomach polyps. I never liked taking

nexium anyway, and don't believe I had GERD which it was prescribed for

prior to my achalasia being diagnosed, so I stopped taking it after my

surgery in December. I'm doing fine without nexium and don't believe

heartburn was ever the issue.

I was given 3 different Acid Reflux medications before I was sent to a

specialist. I kept telling them that I didn't have heartburn. They kept

giving me meds and say take these and come back in a month. Doctor's need to

listen to the patient when they say it is not acid reflux.

There are different kinds of gastric polyps. The two more common ones

have little chance of becoming cancer. One of those two may be caused by

PPI use. Another rarer type is more likely to become cancer but most

likely you have one of the other types. Your doctor probably took

biopsies. Based on the results of the biopsies he may set a future date

to take another look for changes.

Debbie,

Did you ever suffer with acid reflux? I find it interesting that your lining

would be erosive without any reflux. Or could it be the lactic acid build up

from stasis that could be causing it?

I am interested to hear other responses.

Hang in there and don't be a cyberchondriac getting yourself all worried. I have

done it to myself too many times. Not fun.

Thank you Terry,Barbara, and Notan

Good to know that these polyps are mostly benign ,and I agree with the confusion

doctors have with acid reflux being the cause of everything is annoying. Acid

reflux, as far as I know, does not produce tarry-ness.Notan thanks for the

reassurance.I read on some MED site(I really should start noting the sites) that

adenomatous is the dangerous polyp,so unless that word pops up I'm fine and

I'malmost sure it will NOT pop up

I like that word " Cyberchondriac " LOL, I will try not to be that. I am being

treated for acid reflux although what Iexperience at night did not seem like it,

it was more like " choking " .The meds I'm on are .pepcid, prilosec, cardizem, reglan,

and librax. My new doc says this is too many so after this endoscopy he will see

if I need to get rid of any

I was on Reglan for awhile. It is a TERRIBE drug.

See the FDA warnings.

Reglan Draws FDA Recall

On February 26th 2009, over two million people in the United States were told

they could develop serious neurological muscle disorders because of the use of

metoclopramide, more commonly known as Reglan.

The FDA required all manufacturers of Reglan to place a black box warning on the

label. This warning is the strongest warning the FDA requires because of the

serious and even life-threatening effects of the drug. While Reglan is used to

treat heartburn and certain gastrointestinal disorders by speeding up the rate

at which the stomach empties, it is also linked to a serious condition called

Tardive Dyskinesia.

Tardive Dyskinesia and Reglan

Tardive Dyskinesia describes involuntary movements throughout one's body

including the face, mouth, tongue, lips, and other body parts. Long term users

of the drug, women, children, and the elderly have a greater risk of developing

this condition. There is no known cure for Tardive Dyskinesia and symptoms may

still persist even after you stop taking Reglan.

Ray, what you say about Tardive Dyskinesia frightens me as i have been on

Metoclopramide or Reglan for a few years now. It helps my food go through my

system quicker. I do suffer from a form of shakes on my right side if i write or

hold a cup or something in my right hand. I shall have a word with my GP doctor

when i next see him about this.

Hi

Yes I had the shakes, you should stop that drug now. It takes time to get over

it.

I then went on Domperidone , had to get from Canada, it is I believe similar

with out and shakes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domperidone

Now I am off both, believe when I stopped taking PPI's and made my stomach less

alkaline and more acidic (notan will fight this haha), I NOW have great

digestion and great BM.

I have not had my e fixed or cut (notan hates it when I say " destroyed " ), YES I

believe an operation helps and works great for awhile.

I am so much better than 3 years ago, my secret is butter and Magnesium. I am

also going to look into TCM as people like Eva really believe in this.

Maybe a solution is a combination of minerals, food, vitamins and herbs.

Maybe Eva can say what she takes, or do the Chinese doctors keep it a secret.

hi, my daughter took reglan for a long time and she started having the shakes

really bad and the doctor changed her medicince to domperidone this past fall

and she is a different kid. She is more active and i think it is a miracle,

because before she slept a lot of the day and now she sings and dances in the

mornings, not like before she got really sick. I don't know how well it works,

she can't really explain to me, but after a month on the medicine she became a

little happier, which we had not seen in years. Also she no longer has the

shakes. As for weight gain, her weight changes a few pounds up and a few pounds

down, nothing real dramatic. I do have to call Canada for the medicine and my

insurance does not pay, but the cost is nothing compared to seeing my daughter

laugh and sing again.
