Guest guest
Hello Tim Good to hear that you are doing so well. Happy Anniversary! I am still getting reflux problems which will be dealt with in due course but at the moment my surgeon wants me to have another dilatation of my anastomosis and a good look see down the endoscope at the pylorus sphincter to see if there is a reason for the hold-up there that must be dealt with. The reflux is very bad at night. Sometimes i jerk awake with a mouthfull of acid and the burning pain in my chest and mouth is horrendus. When i mentioned that the only way i can get soft food down is to force hiccups or jump on the spot, he immedietaly recommended an endoscope and dilatation! I still use my jejunostomy tube for overnight feeds though and eat what i can during the day but nothing after 6pm or i will pay for it during the night. Due for the endoscope withing the next 6 weeks i hope and if i have not heard of a date within the next 3 weeks i am to phone the surgeons secretary up and not the endoscopy unit. Please keep in touch. you are like a breath of fresh air to this group. from the UK From: Tim <timwilson12@...> achalasia Sent: Saturday, February 19, 2011 11:22 AM Subject: One year on from Esophagectomy  Hi! Just a note to let the board know that I am doing really well one year on from my Esophagectomy. Am able to eat any food I like no matter how hot or spicy it is. Eat as late as I like with no reflux and am taking absolutely no medication what so ever!! Though I do sleep on a wedge and cannot sleep on my left side as I get a bit of acid pain then for some reason. Feels like the 20+ years of Achalasia was a bad dream that happened to someone else. Would still like to have more stamina but things are better than I can remember. This week have been off work and eating out a bit and had Tapas, Chinese and a Curry in resteraunts with no problems. Just eat a little less than others but not so you would notice. Have the odd issue with dumping, getting diarrhoea perhaps once or twice a month - nothing I can't handle! I think having the esophagectomy was a good decision for me, I have been thinking about the longer term consequences but so far so good. I am lucky in that there is a regular meeting of the Oesophageal Patients Association in the hospital where I had mine, [Oxford] where my surgeon Mr Maynard regularly attends. Its good to meet others that have the 'ectomy, though they all have had it due to cancer. We have about 40-50 people attending. Still pop in here regularly for a quick read of the posts but not as often as I used to. Its good to be an ex sufferer of Achalasia and its good that my op went well. Happy swallowing to everyone on the board!! regards tim
Guest guest
Happy Anniversary Tim! I am so thrilled for you! I am also doing fantastic and don't check in very often on the board. I also have some dumping issues, but it's almost always my own fault from eating too much sugar or having something greasy. I'm very happy to hear that you are doing great! We both need to pass on all of our success to though. Congratulations & Best wishes to you as well, Thunder Bay, Ontario

Guest guest
I'm sure it will go very well. I have had A since I was 13 years old, I'm now 46. During these 30 years I have just seen medicine getting better and better for us. She will be great and you will see such a great difference in your daughter when its done. I know how she feels. All the best ________________________________ From: fe busse <bil45ohb@...> achalasia Sent: Sat, February 19, 2011 11:13:29 AM Subject: Re: One year on from Esophagectomy thanks to all of you who already had the HM surgery. Guest guest
It's good to hear from you Tim. I am so pleased that you are doing well and getting out and about to Restaurants. What a treat that is for those of us who are able to do it. We probably have a better time that non-achalasians, because we know how much it means to us. Please keep in touch occasionally. Guest guest
Hi Tim I have been flicking back reading some of the older posts and came across yours. Nick Maynard is my consultant also, what a great guy. I am suffering with really severe difficulty getting food down (had a myotomy about 6 years ago). Really interested in people's experiences of Esophagectomy. Havn't discussed it seriously with Mr Maynard yet but seeing him in a few weeks time and definately something I want to raise. I am so glad to read you are pleased you had it done and are feeling so much better. very best wishes Kay nr Oxford > > Hi! > > Just a note to let the board know that I am doing really well one year on from my Esophagectomy.
