i am so sorry to hear about everything you are going through. you have definately come to the right place for people to talk to . i hope you find the care and support you need in this group. evelynmadameladycat <madameladycat@...> wrote: I'm new here and I hope I can make some new friends that are in my situation. Hi, , where have you been? This is the first time I can remember

seeing an email from you, but my memory isn't that good. LOL, LOL. Pat K (another grandmother)

Re: a good day

Hi Pat,

I'm not sure what my mom thinks of my parenting. She came over for a visit on Wednesday (left Thursday morning), and as usual played the role of a guest. When Mark or would have a meltdown, stim out of control, etc. she would sit there and say, "I don't know how you do it". That's as involved as she gets.

a good day

Thanks for prayers; I was concerned about how I would get through this day with Ayden and Karac and no help, but

God as usual met my needs and it was a good day. I decided to take my bathing suit to Karac's and after we took

his siblings to camp, I asked him if he would like to return his house and swim instead of going to Grandmothers, and

thankfully he said, "yes, swim". so we put on our bathing suits and swam and enjoyed hanging out at the pool while

back home Granddaddy took care of Ayden who just ate, slept, and pooped. LOL, LOL.

When Karac was ready we went to my house and rode bikes, went for a walk, and ate hamburgers for lunch. After lunch

we watched a movie for a while and then he was ready to do academics with me; reading, spelling, writing, coloring, and

computer.

DIL said she was getting off at 4:00 and I could bring him home early. Thank you God. So at 3:00 I thought, "What can

we do now?" The only thing I coud think of was a relaxing bubble bath. Yea, Karac agreed. That did it. He got finished

in time to get dressed read his Edmark and GO HOME. Yea, Day over,

Only one more day to go before summer school. Yea! Love and blessings, Pat K

I have prayed for all of you that your day went well.

Dear ,

I am relatively new too. When I read your posting regarding your 7 year old grandson, it reminded me of my son who is six. His diagnosis is autism/speech impaired/sensory integration disorder. He is also very verbal and high functions. Social skills is a big part for children on the spectrum. Does he participate in a social skills class in school? Check out the website: www.teachtown.com for a full social skills program. Aside from that what I did on the social skills because you cannot expect much from the schools, is at the recommendation of the speech therapist )privately through medicaid) and the behavioral pediatrician is to enroll him in an extrcurricular activity, support him on the social skills interactions when he is at Mcdonalds, the park, the pool, wherever. And also through the ABA approach of therapy they can work greatly on the social skills as well.

(Just a mom to who is six and on the spectrum, and also to my 21 year old daughter). So I am a mom, andclose to being a grandma, but hopefully not for a while yet.

No, don't thank me that is what we are here for: to support each other. Is he in a regular education classroom at school or in spec. ed? Does his teacher have training in ABA?

We use the books he reads as our source because he knows them and then we tweak them so he has to use some of his own thoughts. So far it's going well. We have to go very slowly or he checks out and doesn't want to play.ps. You're right about the school. We don't expect too much. But we are lucky he does have a great teacher and she will institute whatever we ask her to. Can't get much better!

Hi,He's in a special day class k-1 soon to be in a 1-2. Don't know about the ABA because we do our own program with him both at home and at school. Because of his hyperlexia he is way above the others in class; however since he is also still on the hyper side and not able to reliably sit still and concentrate or follow directions, this is a good fit for him. They work on social skills and sensory but he does his own academics for his desk work. Hi Pat,

I'm not sure what my mom thinks of my parenting. She came over for a visit on Wednesday (left Thursday morning), and as usual played the role of a guest. When Mark or would have a meltdown, stim out of control, etc. she would sit there and say, "I don't know how you do it". That's as involved as she gets.

a good day

Thanks for prayers; I was concerned about how I would get through this day with Ayden and Karac and no help, butGod as usual met my needs and it was a good day. I decided to take my bathing suit to Karac's and after we took his siblings to camp, I asked him if he would like to return his house and swim instead of going to Grandmothers, andthankfully he said, "yes, swim". so we put on our bathing suits and swam and enjoyed hanging out at the pool whileback home Granddaddy took care of Ayden who just ate, slept, and pooped. LOL, LOL.When Karac was ready we went to my house and rode bikes, went for a walk, and ate hamburgers for lunch. After lunchwe watched a movie for a while and then he was ready to do academics with me; reading, spelling, writing, coloring, and computer. DIL said she was getting off at 4:00 and I could bring him home early. Thank you God. So at 3:00 I thought,

"What canwe do now?" The only thing I coud think of was a relaxing bubble bath. Yea, Karac agreed. That did it. He got finishedin time to get dressed read his Edmark and GO HOME. Yea, Day over, Only one more day to go before summer school. Yea! Love and blessings, Pat KI have prayed for all of you that your day went well.

Check out the website: www.teachtown. com for a full social skills program. And also

through the ABA approach of therapy they can work greatly on the

social skills as well.

(Just a mom to who is six and on the spectrum, and also to my 21 year old daughter). So I am a mom, andclose to being a grandma, but hopefully not for a while yet.

Hi Deborah,

I don't know about Kaiser??  Their are many insurances out there that provide

" major " medical only coverages, they usually make you pay for office visits and

a portion of things, but in the event of something major, you would have

coverage.  These usually come with a yearly deductible of like $5K.  Look into

that if need be, at least you will have major coverage.  In my mind, you pay

alot of insurance, so just paying for office visits and a few tests, you are

probably better off for now.  I pay alot too, and can barely keep it up, so I

may have to check into major medical coverage only type plan.  Sadly, things

are

not good, what can we do?  I wish I had a better solution.

Julee So Calif.

Subject: Hi,

Hi, ,

It's good to hear about someone here who is self-employed and

keeps

their own health insurance.  Mine is just under $30,000 right now and in

January

it's going up to about $34,500, and that's just for me.  It's a group plan

through

the Authors' Guild.  I can no longer afford my policy and my college let me go

until summer school.  I guess you'd call that a furlough.  I call it

unemployed.

The Free Clinics do not handle this sort of problem.  I really do not know what

to do about it.  I guess I could try to ignore it for a while.  But my

inclination is

to keep calling around for advice on various insurance plans.  The problem is

that since I have no visible employment right now, it will be difficult to get

any

policy.

Do you know of anyone who has tried the lowest level of

Kaiser's

policies?  It allows people with very little income start at one level and as

they

get more work/income, they advance up a sort of scale of service and costs.

I have had some disastrous medical treatments at Kaiser, years

ago,

but perhaps having SOMETHING is better than nothing.  I'm just not sure.

I'm getting my home ready to sell.  Then, perhaps, I'll be

able to get

something.  I just don't know.

Any advice from anyone here is most welcome, believe me.

         Thanks,  Deborah

Hi, ,

You don't know how glad I am to hear about somebody else who

no longer has health insurance.  I also love the responses from the lady in

Canada.  Yup, we don't have this one working in this country (medical

care for people without insurance).

I have gone through my retirement, through all of my savings, and

my stocks, etc.  I had to put prescriptions on credit cards and my bill

was running at about $1000.00 a month.  I borrowed from a relative in

order to pay my health insurance so I'll be covered until the end of

March this year.  That bill was $8000.00.  I'm still paying off bills from

several endoscopies (both upper and lower), path. tests, facility fees,

anesthesia (which my insurance does not pay), and more.  A lot more.

I was self-employed and then my work disappeared.  (I've been financially

sound as a self-employed, single parent since 1989 and being broke has

been dreadful, as dreadful as it must be for you, too.)

Having said this, I wanted to tell you that when I was at Cedars-Sinai

in Los Angeles, I stopped and asked the receptionist at the Gastro. Lab

" what if I couldn't pay these bills " and she told me that the hospital has

a charity attached to it which pays bills for urgent needs patients.  That is

the first time I've ever heard that.  She also told me that just about every

major hospital has this feature.

Maybe you could ask about this at your medical center.  Worth

a try?  I know that when I no longer have health insurance, it's going to

be scary. I've gone without it before, several years ago, and I had to go

to the ER once because of severe head pain.  I had no choice.  The bills

were incredible.  (Thousands.)  I have managed to pay back some of them

but not all.

Hang onto this group, . Answers come up that are really

fantastic.  When I first joined, I had no idea what was going on with me

except I could not swallow correctly.  I looked up every website I could

imagine and my former doctor told me that people just throw up sometimes.

(Duh.  Really stupid answer, Doc.)  I kept at it, I found this group, I got

answers.  I am so much better now.

I am always on the look-out for cheap-o health insurance or free

medical stuff or whatever might work.  Something's gotta give.  This is

ridiculous.  So, hang in!

           All Best,

               Deborah
