Guest guest
Is Achalasia a degenerative disease? Do you get worse over time even with treatment? I know there is no cure, but curious to know if things get progressively worse regardless of treatment/outcome. Thanks
Guest guest
I believe it is a degenerative disease. Rapid in early stage. With treatment it will help at first. How long, no one can tell. If a myotomy is done early on it will stop the severe progresion of the esophagus itself becoming a " mega esophagus " , totally unfunctional and twisted up in our chest which unfortunately happened to me. The surgery was not available to me when I was diagnosed 32 years ago. The fact that I still have mine is testiment not to give up. Go to a well known teaching hospital and become a patient of the head of the dept. The problems are much worse at some times than others. NEVER normal. I don't remember what normal is any longer.
