Guest guest
Here is a link explaining that the thick, pasty stools are a form of constipation. (especially if it isn't every day). My younger son has encopresis - always had bm problems. http://www.teleport.com/~dsolns/const.html Increased constipation would follow with an increase in the body's processing due to better enzyme function, and water use. My sons both started drinking more. I put my younger son on 4 extra glasses of pure water a day, 2 extra peptizydes on an empty stomach to help break up gunk in the intestines and 1200 mag given in 3 days to help keep things loose. He has had clean underwear for 4 days now. I read that it needs to be water or juice, not pop. there is one more piece of information: pencil-thin, watery-pasty stools are a form of diarrhea. Thick, pasty, " peanut butter consistency stools are a form of constipation. Interestingly, the pasty, stools are often found in breastfed infants because they break down the milk so completely, like the enzymes are breaking down the food more completely. . Guest guest
Lynn, I just buy regular magnesium at the grocery store. It's cheap and the same stuff. Any health food store would have lots of choices too. I give 400 mg capsules/3 per day. If you don't want to go with another supplement, just make sure he gets lots of 100% fruit juice or water (not soda, tea or coffee, LOL) and fiber. The fiber and magnesium as well as other things help hold water in the colon, keeping things soft. That is the idea you want. I give Jordan 4 6 oz. glasses of pure water each day and then he drinks what he wants the rest of the time. This is our 4th day on the plan and his feeling much better with more regular bms. I am going to buy some cranberry juice today and see if he will drink that. Is your son potty-trained? If so, have him " try " on the pot about 10 minutes after breakfast and dinner, for about 10 minutes. I read this helps take advantage of the body's regular muscle movements as food enters the gut system. . > All that you've sent, , lines up with what I'm seeing, so if I go so > far as to assume he is indeed constipated (he's about 3 1/2) what kind of > magnesium is everyone using--Kirkmans? Guest guest
I like Kirkman's magnesium because it comes in little capsules of 200 mg (www.kirkmanlabs.com). I recently bought TwinLabs magnesium caps at the health food store. I don't like them as much, because they also contain some other ingredients that make for more " white stuff " to mix in the chocolate syrup for my son. He balks at taking anthing, so I'm switching back to the Kirkman's which is a smaller quantity of " white stuff " to mix in the syrup. The TwinLabs comes in capsules of 400mg., so if you give a smaller amount, you'll either have some waste or will have to divide up the capsules. I hope this makes sense. > > All that you've sent, , lines up with what I'm seeing, so if I > go so > > far as to assume he is indeed constipated (he's about 3 1/2) what > kind of > > magnesium is everyone using--Kirkmans? Guest guest
Yes, I use TwinLabs. But I wanted to give a higher dose and not have so many capsules to give. I noticed the " white stuff " that mentioned when I tried to mix in applesauce. But since my guys prefer to swallow capsules, it isn't a problem. . > > Lynn, > > > > I just buy regular magnesium at the grocery store. It's cheap and > the > > same stuff.
