Too many immune problems...are you sure about that death estimate? where did you get that from? what were the numbers last year for comparison. I have had both flu and pneumonia shot and got both this past year, and lungs are still damaged. However, I have other autoimmune troubles, so for that I should get it. I got the pneumonia vaccine because my doc recommended it to me because I already had pneumonia 6 times, and I promptly got pneumonia for the 7the time the year I got the pneumonia vaccine. I stopped getting vaccines and I stopped getting sick. After reading up on the effects of low cell-mediated immunity (CMI), AND after being damaged by the vaccines the army gave me for the gulf war, I've decided never to get a vaccine again. There's a lot of vaccine info at http://www.gulfwarvets.com (most vaccine info here has to do with army vaccines, but if I remember correctly, there is general vaccine info here as well) and http://www.garynull.com, click on " documents " and search for the word " vaccine " and you'll get 20 articles on vaccines. If you have low CMI, you won't get much, if any, protection from a vaccine anyway. I have no idea why the low CMI caveat is NEVER made when you hear all this yearly yammering about taking vaccines. Also, most vaccines, by definition, raise humoral immunity (which is usually already too high in PWCs) and lowers CMI even more. I heard that a few days ago on a tv news broadcast. With Cfs, sometimes I confuse numbers so I checked with my mother and daughter who were watching the news with me and they agree that it's the # they predicted. <<what were the numbers last year for comparison>> I don't have any other info regarding this flu except that they claim with it being a new strain, the shots aren't going to help! Guest guest Posted October 10, 1999 Report Share Posted October 10, 1999 <<< I am just curious as to how many CFS'rs on this list get the flu shot yearly and if and how it affects them. >>> hi sue! i had flu shots several years in a row without a problem (free with the medicare card) in drug stores and grocery stores, so figured what the heck. i just got online last summer, and after reading all the controversy decided to skip it. i never got the flu, but then i'm one who hasn't " caught " anything (besides cfs) since the first year i was sick. now with what i'm hearing about how bad this one is, i'm thinking maybe i should. but divided into 2 or 3 doses (i've seen both recommended). but you probably have to go to dr to get it done that way? i don't know, i'm as confused as you are! and ditto on the vit. C/imunocal/imuplus! :-) maybe those of us who don't " catch " anything don't need to bother with 'em, and the ones who do catch everything that comes along, only more severely and longer lasting should do the divided dose. and the only problem i ever had with a flu shot was a sore arm for a couple days to a week. @}{~{<<~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ debbie s. - dlsherman@...
