Hi Anne,

Wonderful to hear that at 10 months you are still doing really well after

myotomy.  I am only 2 wks out from my surgery and already eat so darn

good...like a miracle.  I have had about 3 spasms since surgery, they have not

been really bad, but still they are scary.  Do you sleep a little elevated?

For

me, a spasm is more likely to happen if I am not elevated on two pillows while

sleeping. The other thing that I have tried is chewable antacids like

Gaviscon.

If I feel spasm, I chew the tablet (always have them in my purse) with cold

water or whatever liquid is handy.

Best regards, Julee So Calif.

Subject: Esophageal spams 10 months post heller myotomy

Hi Group! You helped me through my pre op jitters. Anyone about to have surgery

I would like to say IT IS WORTH IT! In the hands of the right surgeon you will

be fine! My surgeon did it laproscopically. Made my post op much quicker. The

partial funoplication is doing its job!

I suffered for 5 years before being diagnosed as my EGD and Barium swallows were

all normal and was told (as a woman) it was anxiety based

FINALLY I Had the MANOMETRY (lovely test by the way) but again worth finding

out.

I am still " almost: symptom free at 10 months, but just recently STARTED HAVING

ESOPHAGEAL SPASMS AGAIN. Feels like a heart attack the pain even goes up my left

jaw. It wakes me up at night or early morning sometimes at bedtime usually when

I am at rest I feel the pressure grow and I know what is going to happen, it is

pretty awful.

Wondering WHAT do we do about esophageal spasms? Any, all advice most welcome.
