Guest guest
Like you, I was eating well (with extra water) and had very rare issues with aspiration but my spasms were terrible and over time - I was 39 when I had the surgery - there was an increasing list of foods I could no longer tolerate. For me, really the thing was the spasms. There are truly times now when if I sit and really think about the pain, the constant low-level stress of always worrying about when the next spasm would come and all that - I cry. I cry because I had regular bouts of terrible spasms for over 20 years and I was about ready to sacrifice my left arm to pagan gods if that's what it took to get rid of them!! Luckily I just sacrificed my E to the lesser gods at the hospital! I am only aware of one emergency ectomy - Ginny in NY, but even after her recovery, she was very healthy and doing fine. in GA. had a quick downslide and had about 2 weeks I think to plan his surgery but he also is doing very well. p.s. has 2 young children and my children were 2 1/2 and 5 when I had mine done. Anyway, yes - I had a myo and nissen fundo in 1989. I had a few follow up dilations then no treatments or anything other than routine follow up for about 10 years. Now - about the 'end stage' thing. We've already determined your current GI doesn't really know what he's talking about yes? How does he know end stage from a hole in the wall?? Let Dr. Rice - who really is the myo man! determine what you need. Even IF he says ectomy, you probably have several years to get it done but in reality - you may very well have a myo that takes care of it for you for many years to come. I would trust his judgement completely. As said, I'm a take charge Rhino charging through the trees kind of person. I chose to do the surgery when I did because I CHOSE to. I had several years if needed be, I just opted for sooner rather than later. With a good surgeon - I would recommend either Dr. Rice or Dr. Luketich for an ectomy - mortality rates are less than 1%. Let's mark July 9th on the calendar and RELAX until then. As Ann says, Hugs from afar!! ~ in NC
