Hi!

Good news - am starting a phased return to work on Wednesday, exactly 3 months

after my esophagectomy. My appetite has returned and I am enjoying my food. My

weight is hovering around 10 stone - I was 11 when I had the op but its not

going down anymore.

Swallowing is still a little awkward in the area of the anastamosis and I have

to have small portions but I am managing. Energy levels are OK but seem to

fluctuate from day to day. My scar in my torso is aching at the moment,

probably due to the cold and damp weather we have here in the UK at the moment.

Overall things are going well, I feel well, have good colour [used to have

chronic anemia] and obviously do not regurgitate food/blood anymore. Am on

Creon [a pigs pancreatic extract] as I am not absorbing fat well but am in a

better place than before the operation - it was certainly worth it. I feel very

positive about the experience and the future.

Thanks to everybody's support from the board!

Regards

Tim

Dear Tim,

It is good to hear from you. Good Luck for Wednesday. Don't be surprised if you

find it very tiring, you have had a long break from work and your body will be

wondering what's going on! LOL

It sounds as if your life has improved enormously. It would be lovely to have a

return to perfection, but that is not going to happen and sometimes we have to

settle for " good enough " . I wish you the very best. Please stay with us and let

us know how you go on.

Love from Ann

Hi Tim,

Wow, sounds like you're doing wonderful so soon after your -ectomy! Indeed still

some things to deal with, but it sounds pretty OK to me so far! You're still in

the middle of the recovery process, though it might not seem to you sometimes

that you still are, take your time to recover and bear in mind that you are

about to improve and improve!
