My husband and I are new to this site. My husband has had achalasia for about 10 years and this last year it was so bad he choked on his saliva. We finally had a diagnosis just in the past 7 months and surgery Feb 2, 2010. We never know what the chest pains were for years. After 4 trips to the emergency room in the past 4 years a dr. finally diagnosed him. He was at a level 4 and went through the surgery with alot of pain. He is now having problems with vomiting, diarrhea and spasms. Dr. rosemurgy in tampa has put him on calcium channel blockers to see if that will work for the spasm pain. We are wondering if anyone has gone through this and can shed some light on why he is having so much nausia a month after the surgery. We have started him over again on how he is eating, no dairy or beef, only two different things a day and ensures(the drink). Still only able to eat a little at a time. He has lost 10 lbs in the last 2 weeks and 60 lbs total in the last year. Help!! Thanks, Steph
Guest guest
hi Steph - has your husband had his gall bladder checked? I discovered, after several years that when I had spasms (the pain) AND vomiting - it was actually a GB attack. A quick ultrasound should tell. as far as food sensitivities, have you gone to an allergist? my husband discoverd a few years ago that he's allergic to chicken! He'd never had the throat swelling/anaphalactic thing you usually associate with allergies but he gets terrible bloating and diarrhea the next day. He never would have guessed chicken but he was getting tested for other things and got a bunch of food allergies tested also. He eliminated chicken and a bunch of his symptoms went away. Glad you found us, we are a wealth of information and support. 'A' can be very lonely. also, for whomever was asking about routine follow up? absolutely you should get some routine testing done every couple of years. I went 3-5 years post myo for awhile until I hit my mid 30's, then started every other year. A barium swallow and scope will tell you what shape your E is in and to make sure you catch any inflammation/ulcers and/or other changes quickly. ~ in NC > > Hey!
